I haven’t really followed Moulin Rouge but Courtney Reed and Casey Cott together sounds interesting. It might be the casting I needed for me to finally see this one.
It hasn't changed, it's very weak. Are they sure they didn't mean his brother Corey Cott? Because he can sing beautifully, has Broadway experience and is actually sexy enough to be Christian.

Weird casting."
LOL. I had the same reaction. "Did they mean Corey and not Casey?" Eep.
Totally. My auto correct changed it to City (haha) but you get it. Corey has a gorgeous voice and he is due for a Broadway show (he hasn't been here since Bandstand). Stunt casting is cool if someone can actually sing the role (like JoJo) but I guess they're desperate or something.

Yeah. A friend affiliated with the Broadway production said they are really trying to rely on the name recognition of the property to move tickets - but even then, they also recognize the casting is boring

They must think they need a “name”. Don’t know how the contracts work, but wonder if they considered moving John Cardoza from the tour along with Courtney? He sings the hell out of the songs, and their chemistry is perfect for this show.

I maintain there's no need to rely on name recognition to move this show. But that means they should really try to push the boundaries of casting, as long as they can sing this score.

Super odd lunch today. Saw many posts on theater socials this AM regarding Casey C’s casting… Head to lunch later — just outside of Nashville — and see what I think is him. 99% sure but it seems like WAY too much a coincidence. Grab my order from counter right as who I’m sure is his wife grabs hers. I pass about 1’ from him and couldn’t resist — “Are you Casey Cott?” “Yeah, man. Hi!” (Seemingly genuinely friendly guy) “So weird you were all over my timeline today. Congrats! When do you start rehearsals?” “Next week. We just bought a place here a while back.” 10 seconds more chat; we say bye and leave. Not posting this for any other reason that it was the *strangest* coincidence in recent memory. (Only watched Riverdale a couple of times and he’s mostly off my radar, but saw every theater site’s posting about him this AM.) Gonna look for some clips of him singing later.
BroadwayWorld.com, below, already posted a handful of video clips of Casey Cott singing, including him starring in ''Tommy'' at the Kennedy Center and doing a ''Wicked'' duet with his older brother, Corey, for Stephen Schwartz's 70th birthday concert. I look forward to Casey's Broadway debut.
Speaking of the national tour, I know John Cardoza is playing Christian now. When ''Moulin Rouge!'' played San Francisco last fall, Jack Cahill-Lemme and Conor Ryan each did a terrific job. Any idea what they're doing now?

Totally agree about John. MR isn’t my favorite show by any means but John blew me away. He had amazing chemistry with Courtney as you said and his voice soared through the score. He definitely deserves to play the role on Broadway if the show stays open long enough
The casting for Christian and Satine is always so ODD. They cast these powerful woman then pair them with vanilla pretty boys, and the two of them always look completely mismatched and the furthest thing from a believable couple since Barbra and Walter in Hello, Dolly. Satine always looks like she’d eat Christian up and spit him out, it looks sad rather than true love.
The only pairing I’ve ever seen come close to believable was Courtney and Conor from the national tour.

But that fits the story. Christian is a naive boy new to the city & Satine is an old whore dying of consumption.

I'd add that dynamic is baked into the DNA of the story, even in Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film. ... As for ''mismatched'' pairs, that's a matter of opinion. Between the Broadway show and the national tour, I've now seen 4 different pairings of Christian and Satine, and never had an issue.

Like others have said, that's essentially the point! Satine is supposed to be the dominant personality, and that dynamic already existed in the original film (Nicole Kidman worked circles around Ewan McGregor, by design). It's what makes the whole thing an extra level of tragic in the first place, imo, because you already start with your perceptions reversed.
Boy, maybe I've been lucky, but I've always enjoyed seeing Courtney Reed; more than a couple of times in ''Aladdin'' and multiple times in the terrific tour of ''Mouin Rouge!''. Apparently, ''Moulin Rouge!'' likes her, too, since she'll be taking over as Satine on Broadway; opposite Casey Cott.
