He already said "f*ck 'em" when as governor he passed a law allowing discrimination against LGBTs based on "sincere religious objection" and when he tried to divert AIDS funding to go to electroshock conversion therapy for gay teens. A pleasant night out at a musical would have done nothing to change his mind, and standing by and doing nothing would have just reinforced that he and his ilk are in charge and can get away with whatever they want due to their power and position. We need to be standing up for ourselves and declaring that we will not stand by silently while minority rights are trampled upon. That message will resonate far more than letting bygones be bygones. Kudos to the company and the audience. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Edited to add: As an article at Slate pointed out, the star of the musical, a gay HIV-positive man, would have been refused treatment under Pence's proposals unless he "sought to change his sexual behavior". In other words, according to Pence Javier Muñoz needs to "convert" or die. Staying silent is not an option. Updated On: 11/19/16 at 01:18 PM
I am going to assume he paid for the tickets so why does he not deserve the respect of a regular ticket holder.
He requested the tickets THAT AFTERNOON. By doing so, he waived his expectation to be treated as a regular ticket holder. And honestly, the timing of all this is absurd. Why see THIS show NOW? This smells more like a stunt on his part for the opportunity to play the victim for the press and let Trump and his supporters puff it up on social media. Trump's reaction was as ridiculous and supercilious as a typical After Eight post.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
I feel a mixture of pity and absolute disdain for the people who are idiotic enough to believe that all of the sudden Mike Pence hates Broadway and the arts because of this incident. And it is so typical of some people here to blame minorities for the problems caused by the abhorrent people who have been elected to run our country.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

Well, of course Bud Frump, uhhh...Trump, is going all big daddy for Mike Pence (just as if baby-boy Pence couldn't speak for or take care of himself). Who else is willing to follow Trump around with a pooper-scooper for the next four years?
Somebody should play Trump a few of his speeches and compare their content and tone to that of the Dixon's last night.
If Trump had any desire to be a uniting leader, he's have invited representatives of the cast to come talk about their concerns. Instead, we got another juvenile tweet.
Gotta love the calls for a boycott. You might as well demand a boycott of woolly mammoth meat.
Trump and Pence seem like the kind of people who would make it their priority to get rid of anyone and anything that they simply do not like with a cold vengeance, including Hamilton for "harassing" them or bruising their egos...which kinda scares me.
I imagine that they took up at least 6 seats for the party of Pence, his wife and daughter and close-in secret service. I wonder who had been promised house seats - only to have them taken away at the last minute.
Trump is 100% doing this to take everyone off the Trump U settlement, Session's appointmen. This Hamilton nonsense is at the top of NYT and al this more important stuff is pushed off the front page or at the bottom. He knows exactly what he's doing

This topic has been very hard to keep up with!
I wasn't there but I am guessing Pence was able to see the show. Unless Brandon Victor Dixon sat next to him checking his cellphone throughout the show to ruin the experience. THAT to me is rude. If the cast wanted to make a statement, at least they did it at the end after he was able to enjoy it if he chose to.

Who got bumped? Probably 6 people who had hopes of getting in from the Cancellation Line.

huh i hadn't thought of that but it does make sense considering it was the middle of the night in London where Lin lives when they gave the speech.
"
Didn't the cast say this? I know Kail and Sellers and Miranda worked on the speech. And I thought I read somewhere they decided to grant his request because they saw an opportunity to say something to him

i didn't hear Brandon Victor Dixon mention Lin writing the message so i wasn't sure.

The cancellation line is not guaranteed. It is not a right. Everyone knows that. Stop crying.
