A friend shared this with me today. Also that Berlin had cancelled upcoming opera performances . And these are from cities that I believe have a high vaccination rate? Discouraging news for those theaters.
City of Vienna tightens Corona measures: 2G (proof of -vaccinated-recovered - with additional PCR test
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
As you have probably already read in the media yesterday, the City of Vienna is planning to tighten the Corona measures again as of next week.
For events with 25 or more people, the »2G+« rule will apply. This means that even if you are - as is the case with well over 90% of our visitors every evening - fully immunised by a double vaccination, have already had your third one or have been recovered you will also have to present a valid PCR test, no older than 48 hours, when attending one of our performances. The date of the test is valid, not the date of the result.
Unfortunately, we do not know exactly when these measures will come into effect. Should this happen at very short notice, we could therefore find ourselves in the situation of not being allowed to admit you in spite of a valid ticket and proof of 2G - »vaccinated-recovered« - in the evening.
There is nothing we can do about this other than ask you to keep an eye on further developments. Of course, we will inform you again as soon as any new details become known to us.
We deeply regret these circumstances, but we cannot influence them. We hope for your understanding.
Aside from a few unfortunate breakthrough cases and a couple of short cancellations, minus ‘Chicken and Biscuits’, NYC has been a huge celebration every night. Nearly packed houses, standing ovations throughout the evening of most shows, people are happy and flocking to the theatre. The streets are full, even tourists are coming back. This is all a GREAT thing!
With a few minor setbacks, theatre is BACK, tourism is growing, restaurants are packed and people couldn’t be happier. The smile on the faces exiting Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway houses is proof of that.
So, why must people on here always report the gloom and doom side of things. We are slowly making our way back to some kind of normalcy and it’s about damn time.
So, I ask you, OP, why must you be such a Debbie Downer when there is SO much good happening?
People have jobs, people are finally doing what they love again, their livelihoods were given back. Give it a chance before being so negative. We should all be VERY grateful and be better from this. Grow as artists if we can. We don’t need to know about what’s going on in Europe - maybe post this in the ‘West End’ board? Live your damn life! I’m tired of being depressed constantly and not smiling. This board could be about celebrating, instead of what catastrophe MIGHT happen next. Just my two cents.

No one is being a Debbie Downer, as the reactionary sadsack claimed. The point is, that caution is still advised at this time, as winter approaches. Now is not the time to become lax. I was recently in Amsterdam where they removed all standards of precautions. Now, their infection rates have skyrocketed, and a partial lockdown has been reimposed. No one wants that here.

If you visit Washington DC sometime, take a moment to read what's inscribed in stone at the entrance to the National Archives: " Eternal vigilance is the price of democracy." It applies here too. We have all of the good things happening here because we have tight mandates for masks and vaccinations. Europe relaxed too fast and is paying the price. Some here advocate relaxation; that is why it is important to understand the science and act accordingly. Science does not happen in a vacuum; it happens IRL. If you want the good, you must pay attention to the bad and not live in fantasy land.

Wow. Are you unaware that the covid virus came to us in the first place from Europe? In the 21st Century, what you advocate was contrary to what was known at the time of the Black Plague. Countries like Germany and Austria are taking the steps they are because they are only roughly 2/3 fully vaccinated and beginning to see the consequences of that. The US is only 58.5% fully vaccinated even though the main theatre ticket buying zipcodes in New York City are approaching 100% vaccinated. The stupidest states are not even half vaccinated. (WV: 41%) The European data is not teaching us what "might" happen; there is a 0% chance that there will not be a 4th wave in a lot of the southern states and until we are on the other side of it, hopefully by Spring, we need to temper our celebrating with a dose of reality. Eternal vigilance or it will be covid that is doing the celebrating. The same covid that has already killed 3/4 of a million Americans because up until this year we did not pay attention to what was happening in Europe.
Some years ago, my husband and I had the good fortune to tour the Vienna State Opera, but not to attend a performance. A stunningly beautiful building. We look forward to returning in 2024.
I would hope that those of us here are as ONE with our friends in Europe.

Yes, things are back. But to bury your head in the sand and act as though the pandemic has been thoroughly stopped is delusional. You want all these happy people to stay happy, yes? Then you have to be aware that COVID is still an issue. What happened to Chicken & Biscuits or Aladdin could very easily happen to more shows if folks are blase about everything, which is more devastating than you having to read some bad news.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
I would argue that this news isn't even that bad. Personally, I think a little extra caution, to make theatres even safer (to ensure they don't shutter again), is a good thing.
To borrow a phrase from another poster on this thread; just my two cents.
Acknowledging facts and science and discussing a public health crisis affecting us all isn’t being a Debbie Downer. How about you just don’t engage with those of us who actually care about the pandemic, and public safety?
"I know now that theatre saved my life." - Susan Stroman
And to whatever fool said that news from Europe isn’t important to us, please just stop. This is a virus that spread like wildfire and knows no borders. It affects ALL of us. The news matters. Educate yourself.
"I know now that theatre saved my life." - Susan Stroman
I would also add that letting our guard down this winter, with what happened last winter, would not only go against scientific sense, but also human nature.

Come on now, BillyComet. As much as we'd like to think everything is all-caps back to normal, hearing that the real world outside the Broadway bubble is still struggling reminds us that we all need to stay smart, stay safe, stay diligent, for the time being. Especially now that international visitor restrictions are loosening up. That goes for us in the audience, and for the casts and crews.

1. We have a lot more to fear from (e.g.) the 59.1 percent of West Virginians who are not vaccinated visiting our city than the 100% of Europeans who are vaccinated.
2. Austria has also announced that unvaccinated dumbasses in their country are being locked down. Would that we could do the same.

Ooh boy, wouldn't that be nice?"
Wish we could do what Singapore is and make the unvaccinated pay out of pocket if they contract Covid. No free rides for your stupidity.

Out of the most recent 20 threads on this board, this is the ONLY covid related/"downer" post. The rest are talking about shows - that people have seen.
Perhaps YOU are the one being unrealistic. Keeping your head in the sand is a dangerous way to go through life.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

That would never happen in the US. All the governors in all the red states wouldn't follow such orders(Florida, Texas, the Dakotas, etc.). The virus and any mandates in the US have been divided by politics since the beginning. Would like to see see other countries follow Singapore and make vaccinated patients pay out of pocket for any Covid related treatment.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
