OMG. Did you see that pig Neil Patrick Harris sweat onstage? And he's the favorite to win? I'd demand a refund if I saw an actor that out of breath at the end of a big production number. So unprofessional. /snark
I wish they had done more "melodic" song like Origin of Love, Wig in a Box, or Tear Me Down, but I am glad I saw this during previews -as it will completely sell out. So glad for Lena - after her Kinky Boots part got cut to nothing a few years back.
"Observe how bravely I conceal this dreadful dreadful shame I feel."
That Hedwig number was awful. I certainly won't be buying a ticket for that. Lucky for NPH that he has the favorably reputation in the theater community he does otherwise I don't see how he could win Best Actor in a Musical for this.
I saw Hedwig, LadyDay, Gentlemen's Guide, If/Then, Cabaret, Beautiful, Violet and Bridges on my trip in May. Not a bad selection. Now I want to go back to NY to see them again!
Technically, Audra has 2 Lead Tonys (1 for Musical, 1 for Play) and 4 Featured Tonys (2 for Musical, 2 for Play). Julie Harris' 5 were all for Lead, so she has the edge.
I'm more impressed that Audra now has at least one Tony for each acting category, Musical or Play. Is this a first?
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia
I didn't understand ONE WORD of the Hedwig number. I have never seen the show and now I don't really care.
I think these awards are pretty bad. Hardly ANYTHING NEW except... Gentleman's Guide... Les Mis...each once screaming louder than the last, Lady Day ... old ....Cabaret.. yawn.... Why was Hugh Jackman HOPPING? Has anyone answered that yet? Aladdin just another Disney crappy show... I could go on and on. Broadway AIN'T what it was when I moved here in 1980.
don't know if anyone caught this, but Linda Cho won for best costume design for A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder ... that kind of surprised me. But, I was impressed with the designs.
