What is this world coming to ?
Beanie leaving 'Funny Girl' two months earlier , and now this musical is (finally) closing this Sunday ?

Buh bye.
It had noble intentions, and gave a rising actress her Jennifer Holliday moment on national television, but it ultimately ended up an overly choreographed and noisy mess.
Maybe if someone cleans the book up and tones down the…everything, it could make a nice Encores revival in 20-25 years

Which show were we expecting to go into the Barrymore again?

It was Almost Famous, until they moved to the Jacobs.

The show was actually good in Berkeley! Such a shame that it ended its life as a bloated Riverdance wannabe.

If they announced the closing for this Sunday, then last week's box office must've really been beyond devastating and brought them to their senses. I'm curious to see what's reported tomorrow.

In a world of jukebox musicals and biopics, I am happy for any show with an original music and book to get a chance. I wish they had done more work on the book before bringing this to Broadway, because I certainly thought it had potential but ultimately did not come together. I enjoyed seeing it though.

The show has never had a week in which the box office was not beyond devastating. But yes someone finally came to their senses.

We all knew this wouldn't last very long despite its Tony Awards success, but closing with less than 7 day notice is always a terrible sign. Based on the Box-Office Numbers, the closing statement - with its promises of a 'For Colored Girls' style reprieve if they get an 11th hour surge in demand - feels a little delusional...
I've always been of the opinion that Paradise Square could enjoy a strong afterlife, but that requires taking control from the guy responsible for most of its problems...

One week notice sucks, but I'm guessing they ha e no advance for the rest of the summer.

Bravo to that amazing company. The material itself may have faults, but the company did their absolute best to elevate it. I hope they are truly proud of the work they’ve done.
This does have me curious, how many short runs/flops (critical/financial/both) get cast recordings?

More than you’d think. “Glory Days” has one and it barely even opened.

WOW! A weeks notice - Garth Drabinsky is a jerk to the very end.
hope everyone gets paid!

I am no fan of Garth but giving the contractual notice is not jerk-y, or unusual. There is plenty to criticize without adding things that are unfounded and thus undercut the bad stuff.
And there is no issue about everyone working under a union contract being paid; that's what bonds are for. Again, let's try to stay focused on the real issues.

Hi Hogan,
yes, I’m aware of contractual notice… with that said, the writing has been on the wall since before day 1 for this show…
garth is very aware of the grosses as all of us are. He could have given them more notice. That’s all my saying

Glad Joaquina got her Tony Award. I think because of the large cast size required it will do well in regional theatres and high schools.

Only those with the demographics to actually do the show, and the willingness to explore race in America. There are reasons why the most-produced musicals (especially at the high school levels) do not have much racial specificity in the casting.
Professional regional theatres generally try to go for smaller-cast shows, especially when the titles don't have name value (as is teh case with PS). Regardless, a show that lost $15M+ on Broadway is unlikely to recoup 100% through licensing, but maybe if a non-Eq tour is successful it will help make a little dent in that.

This is part of the disastrous rollout. The cast recording has been sitting since April when it was supposed to be released. Like many, if people could have listened to the show, it might have helped sales.

It looks like no one told Telecharge as they are still selling tickets for dates passed the 17th.

So long, Garth, you won't be missed.

It's quite common for flop shows (critical, financial, and both) to get cast recordings. In fact, these days I'd say it's more common than not, especially for new musicals (as opposed to revivals).

It always sucks when a show closes but I will never understand why anyone would keep this going week after week with those straight up offensive grosses.

Clearly, the team at Telecharge is too busy refreshing their Twitter pages awaiting the Funny Girl casting news today!
Seriously, I think it's so funny that, for months, all of BWW has been eagerly waiting to find out how long this show would last... and the news finally breaks on the one day where literally everybody's eyes are laser-focused on a different show.
