Good! I am hopeful that the more shows require vaccination confirmation/a negative Covid test that it will be a standard going forward.

Hoping more shows come out and do this. Theatres have to re-open, so do it the safest and most effective way.

New York is okay (for now) but many places are going backwards. LA County had to issue 4857393th mask mandate because of the huge rise in cases.

Sigh. I hope Broadway still opens in the Fall!

This should be par for the course for all shows, until at least spring '22. That gets us through the Delta wave (which has largely already started), as well as the winter season, where respiratory pathogens spread more readily.

On the subject of Broadway still opening in the fall, I'm cautiously optimistic. I've voiced my worries in other threads, but right now, it seems like policymakers are not too keen on shutting down their economies, just to appease the insufferable morons (no cap) who refuse to get vaccinated. Even in LA, the health order reinstating the indoor mask mandate says that indoor masking is an effective measure to mitigate the spread, without causing economic/social/business disruptions. This seems to be the standard belief everywhere that is reinstating mask mandates, and even those mandates seem to be outliers (for now).

I suppose this could change, in time, which is why I have "cautiously" as a preface for my current optimism. But for right now, no one seems keen to shut down again, even the most cautious of policymakers.

I don't remember seeing it when I ordered tickets but, just on GP, I went to the Stars In The House website and it says that the Town Hall event on Sept. 12 will also require proof of vaccination.

Good, just as it should be - and I love the mandatory mask wearing when seated!

Masking isn't mandatory when seated. It's mandatory until seated.

That could still change though. I’ll be donning my finest masks whatever shows I see in the future.

It's a bit over kill if everyone is vaccinated, can people still catch covid during a show full of vaccinated people? Sure but the odds are really so small.

Also, one thing I will add is that if the Delta variant does cause Broadway to either shut down again, or delay reopening, I have no reservations, whatsoever, against introducing anti-vaxxers to my fists.

I feel exactly the same way. The anger I feel towards these assholes for potentially delaying things because of their "civil liberties" makes me very, very stabby.

As a nurse, I’ve been rather busy over the past year and I’m desperately hoping Broadway will reopen - I have tickets to four shows. I also have a trip to Beverly Hills (which I won on “The Price Is Right” taped just before the pandemic) scheduled for September.

Even though I’m fully vaccinated, the anti-vax people are really chipping away at me because their arguments are easily turned about - Usually it’s “We don’t know the long term effects of the vaccine”. Well, we don’t know the long term effects of COVID either so why not go with the safe, protective option? (Had COVID and it SUCKED.)

Back to the main point, I’m fine with everything on Broadway being vaccine-only for the next season. It might hurt some shows a bit, but gatekeeping is really the only way to do it at this point (with full recognition there are noted few with immune issues who may not be able to take the vaccine for health reasons)

It's maddening. And also, I am not a violent person. By my very nature, I am a pacifist. But this is different. Without going into much detail, I am very lucky to still be alive today (due to the pandemic). I have survived something I did not think I had the capability of surviving. If these assholes put that survival in jeopardy again, they throw my natural passiveness away completely. My natural instinct is to survive.

Between this and the continued rise in ticket prices over the past decade, I've been sincerely proposing a hybrid model to pretty much anyone who will listen, but no one seems to be biting. (I dunno why, it's not like BroadwayHD hasn't set a precedent for this idea by doing the perfunctory bureaucratic groundwork of striking deals with authors, cast, etc., for their live-stream events that can be referred to by future producers.)

Namely, for the type of limited capacity opening that should fill the immediate future, you lower the ticket price slightly, and to make up the difference for empty seats, offer simulcast streamed performances (live or thereabouts, at least two a week, to satisfy the variable of each night's uniqueness) at a much lower price. This could increase accessibility and affordability for people who can't -- or, for safety's sake, don't choose to -- leave the house. (And, I suppose, it will also offer access to the morons bitching about their civil liberties too, but ain't nothin' comes for free.)

Then, in the long term, when things get back to a kind of normal, and we're back to standard capacity and they think they can push pricing again, the hybrid model still has legs: even if theater remains the playground of those with cash to burn (be they rich, tourists, or both), they continue to go see it live at the now-standard $150-$200/ticket (on the low end), like people spend ridiculous amounts to see the Super Bowl or New Year's in Times Square in person (both of which, believe it or not, the current Broadway ticket is still largely cheaper than), and an affordable streaming ticket for the rest of us (say, $10 to $20 apiece; could probably even squeeze it to $30, but no higher) can be the new primary income of the Broadway, West End, etc., of the future.

After all, people who don't have the discretionary income to run to the city, or travel overseas, and dump their wages on tickets to see a show multiple times might think twice about seeing their favorite more than once if they only had to spend what they would on a large pizza and never left the house to do it, and the cheaper streaming tickets could sell tens of millions if everyone preaching about accessibility supports them consistently and doesn't pirate,…

Would hope all of Broadway adopts this mask policy for the restart.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

How about posting in the off topic board about your win.  I am really interested.  Years ago, while living in Atlanta, I met a female flight attendant, who told me by the pool, that she won the showcase showdown.  I wasn't sure if I was getting a "story", but saw her show about a month later.

Yesterday I got an Audience Outlook Monitor survey from one of the local Bay Area theater companies. They asked about which conditions would make people more likely to attend a performance vs. less likely.

There will be people angry about vaccination / masking requirements, but I think there's another contingent who are *more* likely to attend if the requirements are stricter.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've eaten indoors since the pandemic started. However, I'm going to see Eva Noblezada at Feinsteins SF in two weeks *because* the venue is (supposedly) requiring vaccinations.

I'm really hoping theatres and concerts start implementing vaccine checks. Let the anti-vaxx Q-anon crowd picket all they want. I was in Ptown early June days after all mandates were dropped in Massachusetts. People went hog wild and I mean hog wild. Now I am hearing of people I know there getting ill, including those vaccinated. I am hearing of events being cancelled and people quarantining again if they were around a sick person. Stay diligent folks.

I read a few reports on this the other day. We cancelled our trip there next month. People who were vaccinated got sick. The reports were saying that pretty much everyone who lives in PTown and works there are vaccinated. But you get people from all over and you get what has happened. And they have that big gay festival coming up next month (Which we were not attending). Delta has gotten strong enough to get vaccinated people sick and I am not taking any chances.

Man, today has been awful. My optimism in this area has done a complete 180, since I posted this. And now I'm just laying in bed, depressed at the thought of Broadway possibly being shut down for another 18 months. And angry on top of that, because vaccines were supposed to be our ticket back...but people aren't getting them.

What a difference a few hours makes.

Let me second that! You know this, pal. Vaccines work. Proof of vaccination will be a necessary tool, and it works, too. 54 Below is proof of that right now. You’re smart and you’re vaccinated— you will be OKAY, and so will NY.  Don’t give into the fear porn.
