Is it really that difficult for the mods to block BroadwayFlash’s IP address from creating any new accounts? I legitimately don’t understand.

Delusional?? Telling you about what actually happened is delusion? my god, you people have flash derangement syndrome for god forbid having a different opinion than yours. When did it become popular to trash Kristin Chenoweth? When did caissie levy become popular??

I went to the Ragtime Good Morning America pretape this afternoon. Basically they did a modified version of the opening number with the entire cast, which will air sometime in December.

Did they come up on the lift? Loved seeing that live.

And waved goodbye to us on the way back down. They ran through the opening number 3 full times.

Wow so exciting! Glad that will be preserved.

So glad this thread is back on the rails! I saw Ragtime on Saturday and as others have noted the audience response to the opening number was ecstatic. I have to believe that anyone who sees even a modified version will be more motivated to buy tickets.
Ben Levi Ross is out tonight. I know Shaina Taub being out was scheduled, but not sure if this was?
I shouldn't have been concerned. Understudy Nocholas Barrón was excellent - a 2022 Jimmy best actor winner.
Been a long day - caught the train early from DC & was go go go.
Gist of my thoughts are as good as Mr. Henry is, the emotional core of the show for me rested on Cassie Levy - who was just fantastic.
Possibly this wins both lead acting awards, but not certain it will take best revival. Second act has moments, but is not as good as 1st. Show end is satisfying, but it takes a looooong time to get there.

That’s an interesting response. I remember the original being that way, especially in that barn of a theater but found this production much more concise which I attribute to the direction. I could still do with less time spent on some of the historical characters. Evelyn Nesbitt and Houdini didn’t need to show up in Act II.

Perhaps this is too confident, but I don’t see how this doesn’t take Best Revival. The overwhelming thought of “this is so RELEVANT” seems to permeate the buzz behind this production.

Did you see Cats: Jellicle Ball off-broadway? I think the pure joy of that production may be hard to beat, as much as I'd love to see Ragtime get the recognition.

As relevant as RAGTIME is, the current production is more or less a conventional staging, whereas something like CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL does what a revival is supposed to do IMO, which is to offer something new in its interpretation and perhaps challenge one's presupposed thoughts about a show.
I could easily see Henry and Levy winning in their respective acting categories at the Tonys, but CATS takes home revival of a musical and direction.

I think it's going to be a horse race between the two. Cats will have a lot of support for completely reimagining a well-known show and giving us something we didn't know we wanted. But I could also see voters wanting to give Ragtime its due after previously losing Best Musical and Best Revival, sort of a "Justice for Ragtime" mentality. I'm generally in favor of the award going to a production that takes wild swings and makes it work, but sometimes The Pajama Game still beats John Doyle's Sweeney Todd in the end!

I’m completely underwhelmed by both. Ragtime is just too much of a history book to ever really be moved by it. And the jellicle ball? Hated the choreo and the little slide show and pretty much the whole concept and everything about it. They ripped out the enjoyment of the original; the choreo, the set, and the amazing makeup, hair, and costumes. I’m hoping something else comes in, what happened to those UK productions of Fiddler, Follies, Oliver, and Guys and Dolls?

LOL. The London production of Follies was 8 years ago.

The reason why Shaina is taking her long leave of absence during the winter doldrums (January 6 - March 29) is that she wants to give her mind and body a break due to recent miscarriages.
Jeez. Prayers up for her.

Last time I checked, you're not in charge, so I'll respond to whatever the hell I want.
Imagine talking to a bot with 45 different screen names and defending that choice. I love it.
Then again, Steve was the dumb one of the group so.....it tracks ![]()

My heart aches for her. I am glad she is taking time off to heal.
