This thread is reminding me of when they announced The Great Gatsby, Maybe Happy Ending, and 2 Strangers were going to transfer in.
So much vitriol. Everyone saying, “What are the producers thinking?”
Y’all… let’s give it a chance. There’s no way this is going to be the worst show that has opened on Broadway.
I never understand why this board always goes so doom and gloom when shows announce they are transferring in. Instead, we can celebrate all the people making their Broadway debuts and hope for the best.

Thats not even remotely true.

"Absolute revisionist history if you think this board was excited for those 3 shows to transfer in.
The Great Gatsby had bad word of mouth at Paper Mill and lots of haters on this board. Two Strangers should’ve gone off broadway because it was too small and earnest of a show to succeed. And Maybe Happy Ending’s tryout was so many years ago, people didn’t know what to expect, but people didn’t think it was going to open because producers weren’t wanting to invest in it.

As far as I can recall, this is correct. I certainly remember that the consensus here was that Maybe Happy Ending was lucky to even raise its capitalization and was likely to be DOA.

Thank you! I can certainly go back and pull receipts, but I promise that the majority of this board had concerns for each of the shows I listed.
People were certainly most excited for 2 Strangers, but many MANY people thought it should’ve gone off-broadway, and thought it wouldn’t sell on Broadway.
802 could do the funniest thing in the world and force this and TITANIQUE to hire 19-piece orchestras. They’d sound great!

Thank God for a strong bunch of revivals. Plays and play revivals have the potential to be good too. Probably will not be as bad as the SB season, where Glenn Close gave a great performance and had a pretty empty victory.

People were excited by the numbers and the show on two strangers and while Gatsby wasn'ta critics darling the word of mouth was great. People loved it and still do...it sells very well. These new shows are not well received for very different reasons.

" The reason of the concern doesn’t change the facts of the situation which is when those 3 musicals (and even The Outsiders, too!) announced they were transferring in, the overall majority of users on here didn’t celebrate. They posted doom and gloom about how the shows wouldn’t be financially successful and didn’t understand why producers would want to lose all that money, etc.
That’s what is happening with Beaches. Is Beaches a bad show? Time will tell. We don’t know. It hasn’t opened.
But please don’t try to gaslight people on this board into thinking that Maybe Happy Ending, The Great Gatsby and 2 Strangers were seen as great choices to transfer when you can go back on those threads and see all the naysayers for yourself. Having positive word of mouth about the show itself (like in 2 Strangers case) has NO correlation to people on this board thinking it is a bad choice to transfer in. Literally 90% of users thought it shouldn’t move to Broadway because the show is too small.
We should be rooting for success. People are working. People are making their debuts. If the show is bad or doesn’t re-coup, let’s worry about that when it opens, because until then, we truly don’t know.

Actually, it may not, right?
We have 6 eligible shows, so 4 nominees.
QOV is not getting a nom, but I think ''Beaches'' may be the other one not getting nominated.
Unless THE LOST BOYS is really BAD, but SCHMIGADOON and TITANIQUE seems way safe for noms.

Lets see if they are all able to raise their money.

Yeah, people weren't saying MHE was doomed because it was bad. They were saying it was doomed because they were struggling to raise capital, had to delay because their sets weren't ready, and I think it was even rumored that Darren Criss was going to reveal on his Z100 interview that the show was postponed before an angel investor stepped in.
Who knows? Maybe Beaches is adjusted enough to be in a good place. We don't know yet.
BEACHES the musical is now officially heading to Broadway. Though the previous incarnations that took place in Virginia, Illinois, and Alberta (Canada) had terrible world-of-mouth, the people involved are obviously ambitious and got it to Broadway. Let’s hope they care enough to actually put in the work to improve it and not assume the film’s fans won’t notice. Yeah, this production is based on the original 1985 novel and 1988 film adaptation but it’s the Bette Midler film everyone will be comparing the musical to.
Jessica Vosk will finally be getting her original Broadway cast credit as a principal lead with this production so her fans see this as a win regardless of the show’s outcome. Bucket List checked off.
Now, let’s not forget this completely forgotten little 2017 Lifetime movie remake with the glorious Idina Menzel:
Am I insane or was the Lifetime remake…not bad?

Best Musical is really all destined for Lost Boys right now, unless it’s garbage. I hope it’s not. Nearly all of the other contenders are unbelievably weak. (Two Strangers being the exception IMO)

I’ve been meaning to come back to this for a while because I am genuinely excited for Beaches and I do believe that there are others like me out there. I want this show to succeed because it is a childhood love and the story has been a big part of my life. I was excited the first time I heard that this was in the works and I’m still excited. I want you all to know that I think there are a lot of women (and some men) like me- mid 40s -50s who have spending power and can recite every word from this movie. I think there’s a shot to really do some targeted marketing and nurture the right audience for this.
I also believe that Jessica Vosk is a star who will shine even brighter with this show. Her voice is unbelievable and I recently became a fan, she’s really connecting with audiences online and is someone that people who will see this show can relate to. She can carry this show and I do think it could be a huge commercial success. I really do. But I also think there are a few things they need to get right:
1) the online engagement is great, but do more with community grassroots marketing- I totally volunteer to help.
2) Bring back Oh, Industry- seriously we have all wanted to see the number live. For years.
3) Spend more on cee cee’s wigs and costumes- people are calling it out already online. Budget for this now. Even though her terrible hair was a plot point.
4) there is a search for little short red haired Cee Cee- please put out an equal call for little Hillary “Bertie”
‘Whitney- the taller brown haired girls need a chance, too. there is so much talent for two very different looking characters. If it’s a publicity stunt- open the casting for both roles as the tiny red heads have had a lot of chances lately- dolly, etc.
5)have raffles for opening night for some regular moms- get that word of mouth going!!
6)get support from Bette and Barbara…
Just a few ideas and I do hope the producers are listening becuse while there seem to be a lot of naysayers, there are just as many of us who truly want it to succeed and have a long, successful run and tour! I hope they listen and find the right audience now. Do not mess this up.
At the same time, I think we need a Jagged Little Pill revival.

This would be so much better if based on the film. I really missed Glory of Love and Otto Titsling the most. Sadly, the authors are completely against it, and what replaces these numbers is borderline inept.
