Gower Champion fixed many of the show's issues in Los Angeles and that production was terrific - Morse, Larry Kert, and Gale Gordon subbing for Ritchard, who had a heart attack prior to the opening. And Leland Palmer as Sugar. Huge laughs, and no one is ever going to tell me MUSIC is subpar - it's fantastic - some of the lyrics are a little, well, sketchy, but the music is classic Styne all the way. That production had at least one cut song put back in for Sugar (Nice Ways) and it just all worked really well. For me, Mr. Nicholaw's shows are machines and I'm tired of their relentlessness, frankly. As to what the new writers will bring to this that Mr. Wilder, I.A.L. Diamond, and Peter Stone didn't, well... As to the composer/lyricist, we'll have to see/hear.
