What shows make a guy belt to a B/C? Its weird, cause guys dont seem to have to belt as high as girls, in relativeness.

Rent (there are some Bs in that score somewhere), Chess (anything Freddy sings basically), Songs for a New World (Man 2 has more high Cs than a night at the opera), Parade (check out the Frankie and Fiddling John line in "Where Will You Stand Where the Flood Comes", We Will Rock You (oh wait...thats not been inflicted on Broadway yet) oh and how about Jesus Christ Superstar?
Judas goes mega high at certain points on to top Db and I think there is even a F written at one point..the suicide scene?
Those are all exceptions. Most parts I can think of top out at a Bb.

I'd rather hear a really great mix/belt then someone screaming at the top of their lungs.
I said BJ CROSBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cady Huffman anyone? That woman just keeps going!
Personally I think Shoshana's Elphaba was one of the most well sung. Aside from all of the unnecessary riffs, she didn't scream alot of her notes. If you listen to her No Good Deed, you can tell she has classical training behind her.
Also Nancy Opel eventually took over as the alternate Evita as she was in the OBC of Evita. She is indeed awesome.
But when we're debating about belting super high are we talking about quality? or are we talking about "let's just get up there and see what happens" kind of belting?

andrew: does it have to sound good too??? because the lists would be shortened in that case...
I was just gonn post that.
Like, most of your list gives me a headache.
Me too. I can't stand it.
Belting sounds good when done correctly and for correct dramatic effect and intent.
What comes to mind is Louise Pitre's brilliant "The Winner Takes it All"

How can you forget 4 of the BEST singers on Broadway ???
these girls can belt very high (And they can ACT not just sing !)...
Carolee Carmello
Rachel York
Emily Skinner
and .....hello...Farah Alvin (have you seen I LOVE YOU BECAUSE ?)

Amen sister friend..how could I forget The Carmello? She is so wasted in that Lestat show...if they ever musicalized Norma Rae, she'd be my first choice for the Sally Field role.
UH BJ CROSBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of these women mix to make it sound like belts. Nancy Opel indeed sings high but she'll be the first to tell you that those notes in priv. to pee are all mixed. She said her head would explode if she didn't.
Guys don't "belt" as high as girls because they don't sing as high as girls. Higher is not always better, it's physiology. Some people have thinner chords, but it doesn't mean it's better to belt high if you don't have that. Billy Porter CAN do that sort of thing, but it IS generally a rarity in shows. Although they're writing them higher and higher (for men AND women).
when it comes to hitting high notes
-Melissa Errico
-Sarah Brightman
-Julie Andrews
-Kelli O'Hara
-Jennifer Hope Wills
-Judy Kuhn
-Maria Friedman
-Linzi Hateley
What is the obsession with younger Broadway fans and beltig at the top of your lungs? I will never understand this.
What happened to the days when quality was appreciated over volume? The days of Ethel Merman, Mary Martin, or Carol Channing?

I love hearing some good belting, I dont like in BKYLN how EVERYTHING is belted. I think in Wicked there's a good balance of belting and not belting.
Yeah, true Kringas. Judas is an INSANE part. Yeah, they're sorta doing away with the leading man, baritone part.
I love Edens belts.
Oh, Carolee. She'd make most of the punks listed here blush with her talent. Patti LuPone, too.

This makes me hate my life.
broadwayinsider i totally concur!
Many of those mentioned, well there's alittle cheating going on. For a *pure* high belt, there's Patti Lupone, Orfeh, Ramona Keller,Staci Francis, Eden Espinosa (although not a pretty sound with the latter), and Sherie Scott fakes it well. Sara Ramirez is strong more than high.
But all that being said, I agree and have said more times than I can think on this board, how absurd and unecessary I think this trend is. And it's going to keep getting worse because now everyone is going to want to "one-up" Wicked and it's going to get out of control and down right ugly. Not to mention, much like Mariah Carey, most of these belters (like Espinosa) are going to have trouble down the road.
i think that musical's today require all their leads to belt well, although alot of people lack technique and crack in performance like alot of the Elphaba's (no name's mentioned)!
PS.
listening to somebody belting a good song is better than sex! hehe

its not just lack of technique that makes you crack..A LOT of things can make you crack.

"although alot of people lack technique and crack in performance"
Actually, Pavarotti said that a healthy voice can crack on any note.
There are a lot worse things a voice can do than cracking.
