In my seat at Hamilton now. House staff is in very good spirits, not a terrible turnout but definitely open patches of seats in the orchestra. I’d say it’s 70%.

THIS!
Wicked: been making banks since two decades ago, guess it’s still not enough for the producers - even it’s at the cost of the health and safety of the crew and cast, they don’t care

Many actors are taking to IG and posting stories about having to perform today, considering NYC is a mess to navigate. Robyn Hurder posted that, yes, the producers of Chicago put everyone up in a hotel last night, but the sidewalks weren't clear, and she almost slipped on her way to the Ambassador Theater.

lots of call outs. Actors are taking to their IG stories to complain about the Broadway League's decision.

I can't believe in the year 2026 the city does not have protocols for inclement weather. Something as simple as saying if more than 3" of snow are on the ground and another 3"+ are expected throughout the day then shows are cancelled. So embarrassing.

some of the BOM cast left the theater and are at Lillian's Victorian drinking it up with a middle finger to the Broadway League.

Alex Newell said there's about 5 people in the audience for the matinee.

I feel like this is something the League has to implement (which it never will). The city could potentially set up enough guardrails to force their hand, but since weather events can be unpredictable and require a more nuanced look, a blanket declaration may be more harmful than helpful and could be seen as overreach.
Honestly, the actors calling out and forcing the hands of the productions to shutter was probably the right move by them - strength in numbers. It shouldn’t have to come to that but alas, because corporate greed exists, here we are.

Curious what audience capacity looks like today if anyone is at a show and willing to share photos.

All the shows should be cancelled today. It's the easiest and safest solution for everyone. The Broadway League is awful.

Da’Von T. Moody just did a live on Instagram where he mentioned that not enough cast members came in to BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB and so they are doing concert version of the show (just songs) for the 50% capacity audience.

Broadway League is not a city-run entity, so the city doesn't have a say. This whole situation is an abysmal blight on the League, if they actually cared.

When I was walking through the Gershwin/Circle in the Square pass through this morning there was a line waiting for the Wicked box office to open. I'm not sure what their matinee house looks like but their evening show is fairly well sold considering there's a blizzard. I suppose if my family were stuck in town for an extra day that would be the show I would choose to get tickets to.

After an accident at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade years ago that I think paralyzed someone when high winds made a big balloon crash, I believe the city put in place wind speed restrictions that above a certain speed, the balloons can't fly.
The city would be in their power could certainly mandate that during state of emergencies, shows would have to shutter. Either that, or Actors Equity needs to negotiate in their next contract the shutting down of shows during a state of emergency.

A state of emergency can be declared for any number of things, so it would have to be incredibly specific.
Also, Macy’s has to get a wagon full of permits to hold the parade every year, and their use of city resources allows the city to have a say in what they can and cannot do. Broadway theatres aren’t entirely comparable.

I didn’t feel comfortable taking a photo but I will reaffirm that the orchestra at Hamilton was about 70% full. Considering they never sold on TKTS or discounted their prices online for the weather today, they still had a great turnout. And the front of house staff were all very gracious.

It took five hours on hold with Telecharge to get a refund on Two Strangers tickets, so clearly a lot of performers and audience members stayed home
