but all he said was, I know how to blow things up ~Ragtime
Still your heart says the shadows bring the star light, and everything you've ever been you're still there in the dark night~ Spring Awakening
Although we have are pride, we have been known to cast for food.
BERNARD TELSEY CASTING, C.S.A.
"One more outburst from you sir and I bludgeon you to death with this microphone"
The Wedding Singer
So happy to see all of the Ragtime references. That was the first show I ever saw on broadway and it has so many chill-inducing lyrics, including:
"I buried my heart in the ground - when I buried you in the ground"
You can't give up hope just because it's hopeless. You gotta hope even more, and cover your ears and go 'bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla!
- Phillip J. Fry
Legally Blonde: When Warner has just confronted Elle over the kiss with Callahan and he's being a jerk and Kate Shindle's line is "Warner. Shut up." She delivers it so well and it always just sits with me for a while. Maybe it's just me...
RENT: "The code?" "A-N-G-E-L."
and...
The first time "So with a thousand sweet kisses" is said during the I'll Cover You Reprise.
and...
"So let's find a bar so dark we forget who we are, where all the scars from the nevers and maybes die."
SA: "I'm gonna be your wound."
Brooklyn(yes I know, weird choice...) "And Daddy's eyes would stop my cries and make everything alright."
ACL: "And I dug right down to the bottom of my soul and cried cause I felt nothing."
Tick Tick...Boom! The last "come back" in Come To Your Senses.
Aida: "I know the truth and it haunts me, I learned it a little too late."
"We're given paradise, if only for a day."
"There is a time, there is place, when love should conquer all."
Pretty much all of the the reprise of Elaborate Lives and Radames' letter.
"It means nothing to come and sit in a theater night after night and immerse yourself in fantasy, only then to walk out the door and be unchanged in reality. This show will live on in our hearts. But where it truly must survive is in our actions, our compassion and our generousity of spirit towards one another." - Adam Pascal on the closing of RENT
From SIDE SHOW "Take Wing. Fly to Glory. Dance, Sing Tell Your Story. You Bring Such Joy to Those You Known
From MISS SAIGON "Please Don't You See We've Been Watched Over As We Crossed the Wildest Seas. Even God wants us together. Can I end this Journey please."
"Take that look off your face. I can see through your smile. You would love to be right. I bet you didn't sleep good last night, couldn't wait to bring all of that bad news to my door. Well, I've got news for you: I knew before."
Song and Dance. Bernadette Peters
"I'll shove you under the goddamn bed!" Around The World, Grey Gardens, Christine Ebersole
When Ebersole whispers "my mothers gate!" Around The World (reprise), Grey Gardens
And for a FUNNY, unexpected, thrill I got the biggest laugh I ever had on Broadway:
"BITCH, I Don't know your life." Xanadu
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
"Cause the devils to blame. and the angels proclaim!"- J&H
"So believe that she mattered, and believe that she always will!"- Little Women
"Do I fail them even now?"-Little Women
"I wouldn't let Esparza's Bobby take my kids to the zoo...I'd be afraid he'd steal their ice cream and laugh."- YankeeFan
"People who like Sondheim enjoy cruelty."-LuvtheEmcee
Ohh, everyone has come up with really great ones. Hmm, these are pretty random, but:
Creepy chills on the first "Why don't you come up to my office?" - Parade
"What is the good of the strongest heart in a body that's falling apart, a serious flaw. I hope you know that." - Evita, Waltz for Eva and Che
That last, high "Christine, I love you" at the end of Phantom
"And I looked around, and I thought, my god, I'll never have the moon" - Songs for a New World, Stars and the Moon
That crazy, "Take a look at my eyes" that Raul did in Taboo
"And so I forgive you...Jew." - Parade, My Child Will Forgive Me
"God forgive me. Look at what I've done. Look how I protected you. All for Laura." - Woman in White, All for Laura
"Nothing's lost forever. In this world, there is a kind of painful progress. Longing for what we've left behind, and dreaming ahead." -Tony Kushner's Angels in America
"And I looked around, and I thought, my god, I'll never have the moon" - Songs for a New World, Stars and the Moon
GOOD ONE! Chills every single time.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
I know a lot of Rent ones have already been said, and maybe it's cliche, but "I don't own emotion- I rent" from What You Own Updated On: 11/15/07 at 10:29 PM
"It's your Nellie, now." Mrs. Lovett in "Sweeney Todd," though it depends on how it's delivered. LuPone's delivery is my favorite.
"Was I so foolish To think I could pray When there's only one chance I could save you? I gave you life I can take it away! Let the shadows descend Like a knife!" From "When There's No One" from "Carrie." Probably the best song in that whole score.
The entire Act I finale version of "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" from "Cabaret" gives me chills (especially when I watch it).
I'm sure there are more, but these were the first to come to mind.
I have to agree with the "to love another person is to see the face of God" lyric. That always sends tears running down my face.
Also Miss Saigon "Now that i've seen her I know why he lied And I think It was better when I didn't know"
The intro of The Next 10 Minutes from L5Y always tugs at my heartstrings as well.
"We need people not to come to Broadway shows wearing shorts and flip-flops. We are working hard up here folks. Find a pair of socks."-Joanna Gleason
"I hear L. Ron Hubbard is gonna blow the ladies...and all that jazz! C'mon babe! We're gonna unicorn hug, I bought some NyQuil down....at Wal-Mart?!"-Bebe Neuwirth singing ATJ to Musical Mad Libs at DQYNJ :)
"Slim down dear, things will change. After all you've such a pretty face"- A Quiet Night at Home from Bare. Kills me EVERY time. I don't know why but I almost cry just thinking about it.
"One of these days you will look back in shame After you've learned that a spark's not a flame You will regret how you pushed love aside when you're married to NOTHING! When you're misery's bride!" ~Side Show
"Could I live without her, or let her go? How loud must I scream Noooooooo!" ~Lippa's Wild Party
I think I'm a sucker for passionate male power belting
