IIRC, that was an earlier design concept that Taymor dropped because she was afraid it *would* look like a Cirque show. With the giant moving LED screens they're using now, their biggest challenge is gonna be electrical feed.
I feel like the people talking about the amazing visuals of Spider-Man didn't actually see the first preview...
Other than the flying over the audience, and the battle with the Green Goblin, which took up a tiny amount of the show time, what does everyone mean when they're talking about the eye-popping imagery of Spider-Man? I didn't find it any more "eye-popping" than Mary Poppins or Tarzan.
Behind the fake tinsel of Broadway is real tinsel.

Strange that there are no comments from intermission though. Maybe its going "better".
I can't imagine 'we' don't have anyone there.

improvements... they're doing it right! what needs to happen now is that U2 needs to get off f***ing road and pay attention to this little $60 billion musical they helped write.
Originally this would have been two weeks into previews...they probably thought any changes would have been set when they made the tour commitment. Or perhaps it was a commitment made long before these dates were (finally) established.
Who knows.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Nice to hear they are having less problems stoppage wise. Too bad they probably won't completely change the music and the book though.

I was at the show tonight. There was only only brief stop, but other than that the show ran smooth. It is noticable that the actors are not fully comfortable with the stunts. That being said I really enjoyed the show. The story is alright, not as bad as most are making it out to be. Remember its a comic book story and as a comic reader I thought it was interesting. The show does need some work over all. The one thing I did hate was the music..........every song needs to be redone. There was no memorable song and the lyrics are barely noticable(when you can understand them that is) Scenery was innovative and the stunts were enjoyable. The Aracane character steals the show. All in all I think the show has some life in it. They must get new songs though. Updated On: 12/2/10 at 12:30 AM
Good to hear the technical kinks are being worked out early, so by the time Bono & The Edge get back the score can be the main concern.
But I did just check U2's site, and they have concerts on the following dates: December 3rd, 8th, 9th, 13th, 14th, 18th and 19th. NOT good news.

I also found it interesting theat one of the producers came on stage before the show began. He proceeded to explain that the show was in previews and that they chose to preview in NYC rather than out of town. He claimed that this was the only theater big enough to house the show. Then he hand feed the audience the fact that they may encounter some moments when the show would be halted. He also made mention that the media's portrayal that the show was somehow unsafe is ludicis.
