HAIR is up against N2N in the finals for the Best Production of the Year bracket!
I love N2N to death but here's hoping the rightful winner gets the title

I'm too torn to vote between Hair and Next to Normal! haha. I adore them both completely equally
Two of the most incredible theater experiences I've ever had. I can't choose between them!
But the good thing about that is, whoever wins, I'll be happy :P

I loved the show and was surprised at just how much I enjoyed it. The show reminds and saddens me that there's so much complacency among young people today regarding social issues compared to the generation who protested the Vietnam War.
And I knew the songs from the covers done by Oliver and the Fifth Dimension but never knew there were a lot of other gems in the score.
So, yeah, I love HAIR!

Hmmm, I wonder how many recording artists will cover the songs from Next to Normal and how many of them will remain on the charts for weeks on end?
Oh wait, I know, NONE! Nevermind.

I love both of these shows. I was lucky enough to see them both the same day the first time I saw them. I walked out of the second show thinking: Wow....I just saw what SHOULD be the Tony winners of the year.
Amazing, beautiful and moving: to BOTH shows.

Posted: 6/5/09 at 7:17amI got to see Hair tonight thanks to the goodness of a group of folks at the lotto. I'm still reeling from it. The energy and passion radiate from that stage and nearly blow the roof off the Hirshfeld. From my box seat, I loved watching the audience react to the show. Ninety percent were positive, but there were a few hard hearts out there. Here is a show I could see again and again. I had been in a production of HAIR a few years back and I had forgotten how much it changed my world view, and how much I'd love to do it again.

singtopher, I got that too when I was leaving the theatre. Some lady in her 40s/50s was so obnoxiously loud and kept on saying, "This is the worst play I have EVER seen!"
First, it's a musical, but that's a quibble. Second, everyone heard her the first time but she wouldn't STFU! Still wasn't enough to kill the buzz though, thank God.

Great revival and i just love the new cd of this production.
One thing that would make this production even better, Drew Sarich as Claude!

Posted: 6/6/09 at 1:27pmSeeing it for the first time tonight. 5th row center orchestra. Can't wait! Unfortunately I couldn't snag aisle seats. I'm 3rd and 4th row in from the aisle. Is there any interaction with audience members who are not on the asile? Is 5th row considered good for this show? Will I have a good view of all of the goings on? Hope it's not too close.

Have fun!
That is a great seat with a great view. Not too close at all. Most of the interaction is on the aisles, but the cast climbs over the seats and interacts with the people in the middle that way.

Posted: 6/6/09 at 1:55pmGreat! Thanks! I'm really looking forward to it! Never saw the original production (too young), but I saw the 1977 Broadway revival. And the movie, although vastly reworked and minus a few songs, has always been a favorite. I know most Hair purists don't care for the movie, but I thought Milos Foreman did a really good job of translating the show to the screen. I'm really looking forward to seeing this production, especially Gavin and Will's performances and interpretation of the roles.

Posted: 6/6/09 at 2:17pmI liked the idea of calling the movie H and saying that the director took out all the "air". I don't remember who said it, but I thought it was brilliant.

Just got back from the show. Incredible.
Neil Patrick Harris, Laura Benanti, and Kristen Chenoweth were all at the show tonight.

Really enjoyed it! I was sitting across from Neil Patrick Harris and his bf. I had a hard time keeping my eyes off him, especially when the cast was interacting with him. Wished him a great show tonight. As for the show, I have to say that I wasn't blown away by Will Swenson's interpretation of the role. He played Berger too dopey and silly for my taste. But I loved just about everything else. It's a powerful ensemble and they blew the roof off the place! All in all, a fun and exciting night of theatre!
P.S. I thought the movie had a lot of "air", great choreography and really good performances. I thought the changes they made to the story and characters were essential to making the piece work as a film. Until seeing the show last night, I forgot just how much of a "concert" piece it is. They're too different animals, but the movie still holds a special place in my heart.

Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:10amIt was the show's authors, Ragni and Rado, who began the practice of calling the film "H".

Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:55amGalt Mcdermot was also at the show.
