Chita is part of the SOMETHING’S COMING ABC TV Special this coming Sunday so she hasn’t been excluded from this new film adaptation and the history of WEST SIDE STORY.

Good to know you can still post something useful and informative.
Tears streaming down my face hearing these gorgeous full full original orchestrations again so crystal clear. David Newman did wonderful work preserving Bernstein's score.
What a beautiful chance for younger people to learn how immortal the songs from West Side are.
The score sounds classic but the recording of the two of them feels accessible.
This is going to create a giant wave of new West Side fans without question
The full recording of "Tonight" is stunning. I was only slightly worried about Ansel's vocals in the snippet that was shared earlier, but he is sounds great in this recording. I particularly love the way his voice resonates at the end of several phrases during the number ("Everywhere I go, you'll BEEEE".

I agree, the orchestrations are lush and beautiful without being overpowering and Rachel and Ansel's vocals are truly great sounding without going overtly operatic which can be a trap that West Side Story falls into sometimes. So yes, this makes me excited that the soundtrack is coming out digitally on the 3rd so I can hear the rest of the score and songs.

Yeah, it's stunning if you take out Ansel's attempt at singing. It's right up there with Gerard Butler and Russell Crowe. It's lifeless, off key and sounds like he's bored AF.
I do not understand how they could not manage to find someone, heck ANYONE, who could actually sing and carry the melody. Hell, i'd have even taken Justin Bieber who could probably sing the song better... which is saying a lot.

I thought Ansel sounded clear and pleasant and walked a nice line between classical training vocals and Disney renaissance movie vocals.
The comparison to Russell Crowe is ridiculous."
I mean really, the Gerard Butler comparison made me fall on the floor laughing. Ansel is a far better vocalist than him, Crowe, Brosnan, and Gosling put together.

She uses face-lift straps and excellent glam artists. She’s physically in excellent shape and wisely knows how to “freshen up” for public appearances. If you watch her fantastic documentary, you do see her without her wigs and none of the “freshen up” techniques. She still looks great but she does look different from her public presentation of herself.

I guess everybody is entitled to their own opinion but to make comparisons to Gerard Butler and Russell Crowe is really stretching it. And to infer that Justin Bieber could have probably done a better job is as "eye roll" inducing as inferring that Nick Jonas was the highlight of the Les Miz concert.

100%. Comparing Ansel (an actual singer) against two actors who simply cannot carry a tune is beyond ridiculous. And um, Justin Bieber, like Britney Spears has NEVER hit a correct note. That wasn't his appeal to tween gays/girls.

An actual singer? Yeah, okay. The sky is also green. LOVE that you mention Britney (for no apparent reason other than to be a bitter queen). They would have benefited from Nick Jonas in the role - not only in a younger audience but also he is far more talented. But, let's be real, the biggest deal is that Maria and Anita are AMAZING singers/performers.

You win for the most ridiculously over-the-top and out-of-touch post of the day. Congratulations.

And you win second prize for the most ridiculously over-the-top and out-of-touch post of the day. Nick Friggin' Jonas?!?!?!? Seriously?!?!?!?

Believe it or not, I’ve read (you can Google it) that Adele’s new album, 30, has severely taxed the vinyl record manufacturers as 500,000 copies of 30 have been ordered on vinyl.
Looks like the NY Times has positioned WEST SIDE STORY at #1 for strongest best-picture chances!
"Could Steven Spielberg’s new musical pull off the same feat as the 1961 big-screen version and win best picture at the Oscars? After the film showed this week to standing ovations, I’ve moved “West Side Story” to pole position. Spielberg’s savvy reimagining of the source material marries old-school sweep with contemporary concerns, putting the movie right in Oscar voters’ sweet spot. And after last year’s smaller-scaled Academy Awards, a mammoth Steven Spielberg musical debuting only in theaters is exactly the sort of thing that the movie industry — and the Oscars themselves — will want to rally behind." - Kyle Buchanan
