If I was threatened in a show like that I would have told the ushers I was calling the police myself. If they didn't want the show to come to a halt they might have done something. I would have called 911 and let the police come and make a huge scene. Then let the house manager deal with the fact he/she was not doing their job.
A crime was committed and can still be prosecuted and the person identified if they used a credit card. Irrespective of the race of the individual, this crass and uncivilized conduct at the theater should not be countenanced.
I would not let this go unanswered. I personally will not allow myself to be threatened at a place I reasonably expect to feel safe: the theater being such a place.
Iluvtrash: I feel incredibly sorry that this happened to you. I felt physically sick reading your posts and am very much debating whether I will see this production now because of how your situation was handled. Of all places, Broadway is no place where physical threats or bigotry should be tolerated. You might want to consider contacting the Anti-violence Project.

"First of all if you don't feel safe don't go! Who cares. Obviously he wasn't too scared. He has gotten tickets to return. So obviously it's not that serious. So can we stop talking about it?

Ridiculous suggestion particularly since tasers apepar to be illegal in NYC. http://blogs.findlaw.com/blotter/2014/09/is-it-legal-to-use-a-taser-for-personal-protection.html

Umm... where did iluvtheatertrash say he was invited back?

Or even someone tied to the production perhaps? He's only posted about The Color Purple actually. All of these reports of poor audience behavior are bad PR, after all. Personally, I'm hesitant to pay full price now after reading all of these reports of poor audience behavior. While Iluvtheatertrash's experience was hands down the worst, he's not alone in experiencing disruptive patrons.
Good point. I'm actually considering paying full price only for the front row, in hopes of any craziness that might occur will be behind me, and not disturbing my enjoyment of the show.

And yet he's no longer talking about it. But you sure are. And obviously you're not too concerned considering you're still willing to pay to see it.
Hey Ljay- if you sit in the front row, then you too can move set pieces if they are in your way. I see that my original post was deleted. Some people just can't stand to hear the truth and are in denial about behavior in theaters.. Too many inconsiderate, entitled people who don't care about announcements to turn off their mobile phones. If anyone breaks the rules, their mobiles should be confiscated and issued fines. And no food allowed in the theater- it is not a living room. Have you seen the amount of garbage left in the aisles after a show? These pigs cannot even take their cups to a garbage- or their playbills. Theater now is low end. Maybe they will have stricter rules when Shuffle Along opens.
Sounds like this is a show I can skip in next NYC trip. Thanks for the inputs guys!
Anyways I've tried listening to the cast recording (which has been a reliable practice for me to decide what shows to see) and I can't get past song #3. I was still willing to give it a chance with this cast. But now with all the unsavory behavior reported on here I've lost interest in it! Thanks again!!!

Ummm, who cares if its illegal. The theater is dark and it just takes a quick BZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!! Just don't get caught!

Thanks, Scarywarhol. I was totally being ridiculous. God help us all if there was actually someone out there who thinks a taser would solve a problem in a crowded theater. BZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTT would cause nothing but trouble and more violence.
I actually have NOT gotten tickets to return. They have yet to offer, and I certainly won't be spending money on it.
I wasn't scared enough to leave mid-performance, no, and I was frankly too embarrassed to stop the show. I would never be able to do that. I was mortified enough by the fact that she raised her voice to the point of the actors hearing us. But I was most certainly scared enough to not stay in or near my seat during intermission, and to bolt from the theatre the second the lights went out at the end of Act Two.
Regardless of what my fear level was, the staff should've acted.

Uh... BroadwayStar? I haven't posted because I had commitments this weekend and didn't get on the computer very much. The last I heard from them was Friday afternoon. They said that it had been forwarded to the theatre and producers and they would keep me updated...
