WHY in the world are they continuing to put out video of this man singing these songs so horribly?!
I also don't think Adrienne sounds particularly good on this song either if I'm being honest.
All of it feels painfully tentative.

Ok but can I have Johnathan Bailey as my Jamie for that?

As Jerry Herman allegedly said when they sought his approval on casting Harvey as Albin in LA CAGE:
"As a composer? Oiy. As a businessman? You have my blessing!"
As previously announced, the show will have a new 9-piece orchestration by JRB. The conductor is Paul Mutzabaugh.

Oh ew. Like half of it uses the "See I'm smiling" lyric with a weird smiley face. Do better guys with the exception being that beautiful notebook that says "If I didn't believe in you". Ugh 💔

The smiley face lyric merch is indeed terrible. Just slap the show title on all of it and it will sell just fine.
Just an FYI, TodayTix is selling remaining orchestra seats for tomorrow’s first preview from $82 to $138, including some close up aisle seats

Reports trickling in from Reddit are saying that the staging is cool and Nick Jonas sounds way better than he did on TV.
For those wondering, the preview gift was a special window card that had the sheet music to either “Still Hurting,” “Moving Too Fast,” or “Goodbye Until Tomorrow,” signed by Adrienne, Nick, Whitney, and JRB.
Random question from tonight: what was the Kentucky store where Cathy saw Jamie's book in "A Summer in Ohio"? (Borders went defunct in the US a long, long time ago.)

It’s now Target.

"signed by" = autopen signatures.
The fact that the reddit post described the first preview as ‘opening night’ makes me wince in a pearl clutching way similar to when people call cast recordings soundtracks. But it is true the first preview buzz is more positive than first thought. Surprising no one has posted here yet. IS THIS BOARD DYING????

yes, slowly. Reddit is simply more active and we also don't have to deal with all of the annoying ads over there, too.

Long time lurker, rare responder, but I’m on my annual show binge pilgrimage and was at the first preview, and while Jonas was not as awful as many predicted he would be based on early indications, much of what has been said elsewhere needs to be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. The audience last night was very clearly largely made up of Jonas Brothers fangirls, many of whom I’m going to assume have never heard of this show prior to the casting announcement. Good lawd, they were on another level of being overwhelmingly annoying. Trying to badger other audience members for their window cards in an effort to get the full set of three. Screaming, crying, and nearly falling from the balcony to catch a glimpse of the other Jonas Brothers in the dress circle below.
I digress; the show itself was…mostly fine. Adrienne Warren was stellar. It’s not a show that offers itself to do a whole lot more than to post up and belt in many moments, but man, she dug in and delivered.
Jonas was hit and miss. Some moments were good, and well, some were not. The obvious part about him is he simply cannot hit the high notes, which is not what you want in your Jamie. He struggled and came up short any time you really needed him to soar. The greater problem was his constant lack of enunciation. In a show that is 98% sung through, one needs to be able to fully understand every word of the lyrics, and he did the pop star thing far too often where some parts sounded like a garbled mess. There was also this tendency to trail off with the final words of sentences to the point where they were just completely lost. His falsetto (which he used in many cases to mask his inability to belt) was also weak and very hard to hear. Hell, his voice was dwarfed entirely by Warren’s when they were together. Hopefully sound will recognize that and mix the levels a little better to artificially create a more natural blend between them during previews. That said, he did have some great moments. Nobody Needs to Know was his strongest effort of the night by far, where he seemed to marginally drop the pop star persona and deliver a more intentional performance (though not entirely). The Next Ten Minutes was much better than the Fallon performance, though the staging of that song was a head scratcher. Kinda disregarded the Central Park theme entirely and made it their wedding night in the bedroom, preparing to consummate the marriage. That was a…directorial choice I would not have made.
Ultimately, Warren is a powerhouse and is worth the price of admission, and Jonas is going to sell some tickets.

I wish my friend that went last night had an account here to report because I got a full earful from them and it's VERY different from what reddit is posting. But being that I can't speak on it first hand, not comfortable relaying all he said but his first words to the group chat were.... "Let’s start with the positives:" then 5 seconds later "Onto the negatives!"

It's not exactly surprising that there aren't many first preview reactions here, given the lackluster (to put it mildly) response to Jonas's casting, even before the late night appearance. I wouldn't have expected many here to rush out to see it. Even Reddit (where the anticipation wasn't much greater) has far fewer reviews than most recent first previews (Boop, Smash, Mincemeat...) have gotten.
Thank you, heathkliff, for your report.

Thank you, Heath. Warren was pretty much the main selling point for me, that and a score I really adore. Guess I'll just save money some cash and buy tickets when Nick is out!

Is there a specific Reddit I should be perusing? Or are they all separate, show-specific ones?
If the former, could you please link me? Please and thank you!
There's a Broadway Reddit page that's very active. Includes a daily rush report, lots of reviews, and also understudy reports/alerts.
