Seems like a rushed money grab to me. It's not even a decent show but money money money. I get it.
Any thoughts or word on if they’ll offer standing room or rush? I read the premise of this show and it sounds amazing but the BAM production wasn’t on my radar soon enough. I’d totally love to see this while I’m in the city but I haven’t paid full price all season and I’m hoping to continue that streak.

The point of any show opening on Broadway is to make money.

Yes, a revival of a very seldom-produced play by one of the most important playwrights of the 20th century is a money grab.
Yep, that's my view on it which is how opinions work. You have another one. What a wild and beautiful thing.

Ah yes, “it’s just my opinion,” the comeback of somebody with nothing else to offer.
We know how opinions work, so you can stop explaining them to everybody who dares to tell you that yours are often ill-informed.
So your opinion is that they are rushing this sold out run to Broadway to make some more money on it while they have the opportunity. We have a business woman on our hands!
Hope the merch is killer.
Or would that be a cash grab?

I was joking about the money issue, by the way. Sorry for opening those floodgates, I should have known better with some people on this site.
Anyways, congrats to everyone involved in bringing this production to Broadway. May it be a huge success!

Every time there’s an open house this late on the season, or every time we’re wondering if an off-Broadway transfer can make it in time, someone will bring up this show as an example. Which on one hand is apt: it’s an important reminder that not everything has to follow the traditional rules. But also important to remember the specific advantages this show had that are allowing themto forgo a traditional preview period."
This is the Broadway equivalent of the Andrea Riseborough Oscars situation! Everything about the SIDNEY transfer is unique and unusual (from the two previews to the late announcement). Depending on how it’s received, it won’t be advisable either.
This has shades of “plan A” for Hamilton, which if Jeffrey Seller had had his way would have ended its Public run early and immediately transferred to Bway before the 2015 Tony cutoff; instead it waited til summer 2015 on Lin & Kail’s insistence.
Oscar could very well win Best Actor, considering the unknown nature of that field. He also might be the only nominee of the category in a show that’s still running - if the nominees are some combo of JDW, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Hawkins / Mateen, Wendell P, Jordan Cooper. (Maybe Sean Hayes is the other exception)"
Revising my Gold Derby predictions after this announcement is PAINFUL. I ended up dropping A Doll's House from Play Revival in favor of Window, and Laura Linney in favor of Brosnahan. I'll probably end up dropping Jefferson Mays or JDW for Oscar Isaac in Best Actor in a Play, but I can't decide which one yet.

Did we all forget The Piano Lesson? So far, it's the most superior revival of all that are eligible, imo..

Did tickets really fly that quickly? More than half of the orchestra seemed to be sold out for May 12-14.

I'm sure the seats are held. Even opening night tix are on sale. Mezzanine is not sold at all.

Actually, I was looking at those dates for a friend as soon as they went on sale, and the orchestra availability is basically the same as it was then. Sales are not brisk.

Believe me they already made money at BAM.
TodayTux sold heavily discounted tix earlier for the first week of shows.
I got front row balcony on the isle for opening night for under 60 bucks.
Did they lower the balcony prices through 5/7, or have they always been $39-49 for every seat? I thought they went higher earlier. In any case, that's great pricing.

They lowered the balcony prices. I just got screwed for buying early. $84 for 3rd row balc now listed for half the price. Not happy.

There's only 6 Revivals this year, right? I think all had merit and drawbacks.
A DOLL'S HOUSE
BRUSTEIN
PIANO LESSON
SALESMAN
OHIO STATE
TOPDOG
imho:
Piano Lesson was well-acted but badly directed; Brustein is well acted but over-directed. Ohio State and Topdog are more acting showcases. Salesman was a mixed bag for me and voters might still have the Mike Nichols & Robert Falls productions in their memories. Which I think leaves Doll's House to win.
two eligibility questions:
- does this mean 4 Best Play Revival nominees?
- This being a new adaptation of Doll's House, does that make Amy Herzog eligible in the Revival category? I know something like A Christmas Carol is technically a new play since it's an adaptation of a classic but non-dramatic work.

I'd call Telecharge, and see if they'll refund and let you rebuy.

You shouldn't have to drop anything for Revival of a Play though. With this announcement there are now 6 shows competing for this category, which automatically yields 4 nominees. Gold Derby now has 4 slots for their Play Revival field.
The acting races are truly painful though. Made more difficult because no one has seen Summer 1976 yet so who knows if its a major contender for Linney and Hect or it its something slight and they aren't a factor. And then there's Lead actor which was already an absolute bloodbath. Now even more so. I hope there is at least one tie so the field is expanded.

Thanks for suggesting! I just called and this is exactly what they did. Happy again!
If this does go to the Tonys (which I doubt), Rachel's gonna be hard to beat for Best Lead Actress in a Play.

Of course it's "going to the Tonys". Why else do you think they've rushed it to open on the last day before the season cutoff? Regardless, Brosnahan's performance is nowhere near strong enough to beat Jodie Comer and Jessica Chastain. I imagine a significant number of voters will see Brustein's Window for the "carpetbagger" that it is.

this chorus of wannabe-communists always cracks me up. its like incels n virgins commenting on a sex website message board.
this is rarely-produced work by a Black, female, titan of a playwright, that just finished a sold out run with two of the most popular, respected actors in the entertainment industry, and its coming to bway for another limited run-- and the producers that made this happen are pilloried for.... making it happen?
up is down. down is up. as it ever was.
