Saw this for the first time this weekend - posted my thoughts here
FYI, Rosé was in the show when i saw it.
Having now seen the show, I'm really surprised there was ever talk of bringing it to Broadway. From what I can tell, they're already in a comfortable position: they have a decent-sized house that they seem to be filling fairly well, pretty much at Broadway prices (albeit on the lower end), while probably making a killing at the downstairs bar. And costs are somewhat lower because they're Off-Broadway.
The only advantage to going to Broadway would, presumably, to be to make more off the larger numbers of seats. But it seems like an EXTREMELY risky move for an uncertain reward. Sure, you could say that about most Broadway shows, but this one is in the rare position of already doing well right where they are, with no pressing time limit on their lease. And meanwhile, the demand is strong, but not so strong that people are lining up for cancellations.
Meanwhile, the show just has a scrappy, Off-Broadway feel, and I mean that in a good way. I feel like bringing it to Broadway would put more scrutiny and higher expectations on things that are not necessarily designed to be the show's strong points.

Could this potentially tour in smaller cities? Several off-Broadway shows have gone on tour.

A Bway transfer would be rather idiotic, from what I've heard the sales aren't even THAT good, they sell a ton of discount seats every night. Don't mess up a good thing. (Also worth noting that it shares exactly the same audience demographic as & Juliet, which has the same lead producer, and the forthcoming Once Upon....) And yes, it could stand to lose 10 minutes in its "second act."
I'm told a highly acclaimed play that ran off-Bway in 2022 will open at Circle this spring and an announcement is imminent. Won't be a moneymaker, but it's a play that deserves to be on Bway and could give Lehman a run for its money.

I have been literally unable to get tickets for weekend matinees even with days notices. This show is doing very very well. I’m sure they will be extending again!
I just looked at tomorrow and Thursday on mobile Telecharge for 2 seats. Nothing. Outside of off-Broadway week, I haven’t seen a discount in about 2 months.

What sort of “run for its money” would it give Lehman? Lehman has closed and it won its Tony Awards last season.

This would make for excellent small sit-down productions in smaller markets. For instance, it would work well in The Playhouse Theater in Chicago and the smaller Pantages Theater in Minneapolis.

I picked up a TodayTix rush for Saturday 5pm show and it was the last row, dead center (which is no issue view wise)
As someone who isn’t a diehard fan of either Titanic or Celine Dion, this show has me ROLLING with laughter. Like - I haven’t laughed this hard in so long and the jokes just kept on coming and coming. The cast is uniformly talented and really know how to lean into the scenery chewing and sheer absurdity of the whole show and that’s what makes it so much fun.
Rosé and Mark Evans seem to be great additions to the cast - with the former having a surprisingly excellent singing voice and the latter seemingly borrowing his character from Mrs. Doubtfire, but adding a new veneer of comic villainy to great effect. (Side note: His husband and baby were in the lounge of the theatre and he was playing with the baby prior to the show and I thought it was just the cutest and most endearing thing).
Go and have a blast. I don’t normally endorse things that are just stupidly fun - but I cannot stress this enough. GO AND HAVE A BALL

Oh, Downstate could give Leopoldstadt a run for its money for Best Play at the Tonys. I was thinking about A Prayer for the French Republic giving it run at the box office, since they’re both multi-generational Jewish plays, although Downstate better fits the “highly acclaimed” description, with a NYT Critic’s Pick in tow.

It has been at TKTS quite a bit lately.

There are discount codes for Titanique at both Playbill and Theatermania’s sites. 🤷🏻♂️

I stand corrected! When I checked a few weeks back, I couldn’t find one. Is it really coming up on TKTS frequently? I don’t check it often since I’m in Maryland, so TDF is more my jam, but every performance I’ve casually checked either to attend or out of curiosity on how it’s doing seems sold out or near sold out.

Extended again, and now running through September 10.

I went again last week and the show is in fantastic shape and deserves every bit of praise it gets. The laughs never stop. Marla Mindelle is an absolute powerhouse! They have a hit here and whoever said this has the same audience as "& Juliet" is truly mistaken. On a Tuesday night it was filled with 50 somethings having the the time of their lives. I never saw that over at the Sondheim. I do believe it will outgrow the Daryl Roth at some point. Just the "ad-lib" scene alone is worth the price of admission. Bravo to that cast and crew that makes 350 people cry with laughter each night. Sold out on a Tuesday is a darn good sign, TKTS or not.

Of everything I’ve seen this season Titanique is the only show worthy of a repeat visit. Comic genius. The transfer to a traditional proscenium configuration only improved the focus and hilarity. Did Xanadu tour? This is funnier and probably would appeal to a broader audience.

Hi. Would people recommend this to someone who is a big fan of the movie? Is it more of a cheeky send up a la Schmigadoon or make fun of it a la Forbidden Broadway?
I can't seem to tell from the clips if this is a must see for the movie fans or stay away at all costs. Ha!
Thanks for your help!

It takes a lot of quotes and also has a lot of snippets of the background music from the film. I don’t think it pokes any kind of mean fun towards the film.
