I wish I had the self restraint to stop myself from opening these links. This is waaay too far out to be seeing costumes and hearing clips of Defying Gravity.
But I've been playing that Defying Gravity on repeat all day. Cynthia sounds great.

Both sound great. Would love to hear it without the background clatter going on.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It looks like all these photos of the set from the NOMTW and Thank Goodness shoots. Couldn’t the production send some security crew o whichever spot that is and stop people from taking pictures?

These "leaks" and the subsequent hype are exactly what the production wants. Free publicity and quite a bit of buzz.

And yes, these “leaked” photos are being taken directly by the production as they are taken on ground level. They’re proud of the work being done so these are getting the proper advance buzz they were intending. This allows them to quality control the paparazzi-style of the photos.

I agree!!!

Haha yes.
I love how otherworldy the designs are gonna be after all, and dare I say Ariana might be good from the sound clips we heard, and Cynthia's singing is unbelievable! I love it, the riff she used and all!
Thank goodness they aren't just CGI-ing the green in later. I'm loving the sharpness of the coat collar. It kind of gives me vibes from the book, very utilitarian and stark.

Cynthia's Elphie is probably the closest we'll ever get to Elphie from the book on film.

CGI-ing the green in post was optioned but when Erivo was asked, she requested to be painted green which would help her get into the character if she could see the green on her skin at all times.

Acting wise, we'll see! Do we know if she's read the book? I know a few of the stage Elphabas have read the book as prep work and it showed in their performance (Julia Murney and Willemijn Verkaik come to mind) as much as possible with the stage show's writing limitations, anyway.
Although personally I'd much rather we just get an adaptation of the books than the quasi book/musical/original that the film is going for. Maybe in a few decades...

On a recent Next Best Picture podcast, Matt Neglia was recapping this year's CinemaCon with Dan Bayer and Josh Parham. When they discussed reports of the Wicked footage, they still questioned how splitting it into two parts was going to work given that the stage version is two and a half hours long. Clearly, neither of them are aware that the filmmakers are trying to flesh things out with stuff from the Gregory Maguire novel that weren't included in the musical.

To be fair, I don't think a lot of people who aren't digging deep into the film know about that and just heard "splitting into 2 parts" without looking more into it. Although someone who is recapping CinemaCon should maybe do more research!
Personally, I do wonder just what they will actually include from the novel, because so much of the novel's events and characterizations are distinctly different from the musical's character and narrative paths, and would require completely different set-ups and story beats than the frame stage musical provides.
I get the feeling that a lot of it will be vaguely connected snippets that might reference bits in the book rather than actual story points. Like how we have a casting call for Young Nessa, so we may see more of Elphaba & Nessa's childhood. And we'll likely get more of Glinda and Elphaba developing a friendship, perhaps even depicting how they formed a friendship group with Boq, Fiyero, etc, for a while. Maybe we'll get some watered down version of the Philosophy Club scene but instead of drugs and sex it's a SFW show that references the darker political underpinnings going on in Oz.
But as for actual story points? I just don't know what they could actually put in there. Dillamond being murdered and Morrible being implicated, instead of him disappearing and being kept by the Wizard? They would have to change the confrontation with the Wizard in Part 2 post-Wonderful, of course.
But for instance, I don't think they'll have Elphaba join a nunnery or try to find Fiyero's family for forgiveness, since both of these things require a massive deviation from the musical's basic story points. And it'd all have to take place in Part 2, since Part 1 ends with Defying Gravity. Too much to cram in there. I very much doubt Lir will be a part of things.
This is really starting to look incredibly impressive. I have no doubt this will be a success, and probbaly the best/most popular modern day musical film to date. They’re caring with this project, more than other musical films lately. Gosh I’m enthralled already.

I wish they could somehow find a way to put Liir in there, even just as a nod by implying Elphaba is pregnant at the end or something. (I know they won’t do that, lol.) He’s my favorite character in the books.

I really hope they don’t explicitly show Elphaba living at the end like they do in the stage show. As much as I do enjoy the show, I think that part of the finale is so corny.
I would be fine with the implication that she lives, but I hope it’s not super obvious.

Too bad we can't get the last bit of the book in there (or maybe we can? With Glinda telling the story to someone?):
“And there the wicked old witch stayed for a good long time..."
"And did she ever come out?:"
"Not yet."
Or a reference to the later books: ELPHABA LIVES graffiti.
