Everytime I have seen wicked (6 times) when Elphaba comes out of the trap door, the audience gasps and goes crazy clapping. It's always been a crowd pleaser. I'm sure they won't keep it ambiguous for the film.

Cynthia as Elphaba is looking really good! i am glad I like her getup.

That really isn't what happened at all. Erivo didn't even go to the screen tests for the green make up and sent someone else instead. A whole lot went down behind the scene's before filming started.



That really is exactly what happened. She’s said in interviews that she was given a choice of CGI green or physically green and she choose to be physically green for the reasons BroadyFosse123 stated.

^ This gives me extra confidence in Cynthia. As much as I didn’t mind how mostly CGI Oz 2013 was, I’m glad they are keeping some of the 1939 influence.

And Amazon owns MGM now. They have no financial reason anymore to license out the ruby slippers to a a rival studio's Oz picture.

According to this tweet from Matthew Condello, who saw the CinemaCon footage, he liked that Ariana Grande appears to be approaching Glinda more as a real person as opposed to the over the top nature of how she's portrayed in the stage version. He went on to say "More of what I imagined from the book. It’s understated. Sincere. I was really surprised and happy."

In a separate tweet, Matthew said "I’m so happy they seem to be really leaning into the emotion and sincerity of the story. I love that in the footage Ariana’s performance isn’t over the top. It feels honest. And it looks so damn expensive. The scale is exactly what I was hoping for. It looks epic."

During an interview on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, brothers Joe and Nick Jonas revealed that they unsuccessfully went up against each other for an unspecified part in this film (which I'm assuming is Fiyero).

I kinda agree, I feel like she should evolve into wearing black a little later in the story. But that dress is also gorgeous and she looks amazing... Ariana also looks perfect and that Shiz set is beautiful.

She changes into her Shiz uniform, which is very similar to the stage show, so I imagine having that sort of dress appear so early is so that when she goes to the Emerald City in her black dress later on it doesn’t feel like her fashion choices have suddenly taken a sharp turn the way they do in the stage show. What she wears in the Emerald City is very similar to the this first dress so they’re obviously going with a theme.
