Um, what?!
I guess we can safely assume Part I will end with “Defying Gravity,” no?
Yeah, I assume Part 1 will be Act 1? Will Schwartz be adding more songs? They could add 10-15 minutes to the stage runtime and it would still be under 3 hours. The stage show is 2:30 without Intermission, and there have been plenty of successful tentpole movies longer than that in recent years.

Well that’s just idiotic. I thought we were years past that terrible trend of splitting films into two. Just make a long movie!

Ridiculous.
Jesus. So “Wicked” will now be longer than “Les Mis”.
I don't understand this at all. This isn't Lord of the Rings.

Sigh
No one would care if they cut Something Bad and the wizard's songs. In fact, I would prefer that.
This is just asinine.

The Hobbit should have been a warning to all film studios. But again, they still made SO much money and that’s really all that matters in Hollywood.
Guess they’re not cutting “Something Bad.”
This is actually more surprising than splitting it up into a 4-6 part prestige limited series for Universal's Peacock streaming service.
Lolz. How dumb.

They’re actually adding several reprises of it.
I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to cut a 2 and a half hour musical into a 2 and a half hour movie…

I mean, Les Miserables is close to a three hour show, and, was close to that in length for the movie. And to put things in a more current mainstream light, The Batman was almost three hours long and people saw it and was/is a success. Why Wicked needs two parts is beyond me.
I for one am looking forward to the extended dance remix version of Dear Old Shizz with the tap number.

They’ve expanded the role of Doctor Dillamond, he is now the narrator, set in the future. Hence the need for two movies. The role will be split between Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. Early reports are suggesting the expanded versions of Something Bad are going to be major Oscar bait for Best Song.
I know the real reason is money, but the director's explanation for why they split it in two makes the production team sound like horrible storytellers.

If it were April 1, I could understand this.
