I know this will probably cause anger in some parties, but what shows that are popular just make you cringe?
For me, it's:
-Phantom of the Opera
-Wicked
-Rent
-Grease
-Pippin
-Godspell
What else?
It's hard for me to "despise" a show, but I think I can safely say:
Les Miserable
Aida
Wicked
Jersey Boys
King and I
Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat

Wicked.
At first I was absolutely in love with the show then after a while I got tired of it. I find it quite annoying. I'm surprised at how come the hype hasn't gone down for it yet.

I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Phantom.
Halfway through the show, I sat there thinking, "why is this long, dragged out thing still on Broadway when great shows are closing?"

Les Miserables was the first thing that came to my mind. Very close second is Phantom of the Opera. Oh, and Cats.

The Last Five Years. I don't really despise it... I just don't get it. not huge JRB fan anyway, though I did enjoy Parade.

WICKED in a way, just because there is too much hype for it
JERSEY BOYS sort of
I really don't like Mamma (is that how they spella 'Mamma'? There are about 50 different ways...) Mia or CATS. Both well known, but bleck IMO.

Cats.
How that got to be the longest-running musical on Broadway for a few years is beyond me.

Annie. It's the one show I've seen that I do not desire getting the cast album of. If I so much as hear the first strains of "Tomorrow", I am out the door.

Chicago. I saw it yesterday. The only good thing about it is Usher.
Beauty and the Beast - the film was perfect and it was just unnecessary to bring it to life. Kind of like Gigi.
The Lion King - I love the animation - hate most of the score and the stage version keeps lines written specifically for Jeremy Irons because he was Jeremy Irons and he's never been in the stage version. The puppetry is amazing, though.
ALW's Phantom - I can't stay awake. I've never seen most of Act II.
Jesus Christ Superstar - love this music - as a stage production I always slip off to napland. Once, three different times just while Ted Neely was on the cross. "Isn't he dead yet?"
