well that was painful at best. all that screeching and everything sung in that stretched flat tone on the jaw - no real voices of interests all thin, no depth, no quality,

The opening needed to find the pitch it was all over. Songs out of order …horrid screaming (the wizard and I) the director needs to not direct and to keep what she is well known for …the restaging of a chorus line for the 100 time
if you wanna see a concert check out wizard of oz in concert with jewel. That’s a show
No complaints but..it definitely separated the men from the boys. Meaning who is just perfect all the time and who needs editing. If I'm underwhelmed it's because they made the same mistake as rents premature anniversary celebration. What is left to do for the 20th. Other than the movie can acknowledge the anniversary in the trailer.

I wasn't able to watch last night so I can't comment on his performance, but I'm surprised to see Isaac Powell described as "wimpy." I've seen him in both Once on This Island and West Side Story, and the dude's hot, and, to my eyes at least, rather strapping. He sings like a dream, too.
He isn't wimpy but the pandemic forced gyms to close so he is definitely less "buff" than he was during OOTI or WSS. Getting back into the swing of things takes time especially when everyone is just getting back to normal and also going through a break up can be tough.
I found some of those Actors Fund zoom presentations at the beginning of the pandemic much more entertaining and better produced than this donation-laden show.
BTW, who the heck is Ariana DeBose’s agent or manager? Girls in everything but a Charmin toilet paper commercial! Or did I miss that?
Yikes. To quote Madame Morrible. (I)”have nothing but the highest hopes for some of you.” But “I hope you prove me wrong. I doubt you will.”
While I wasn’t expecting a re-staging of the show, I certainly expected something better. Something that took the 15th anniversary special and raised it up a notch or two - but this wasn’t it. If these orchestrations were the original versions during SF tryouts, then I totally understand why Mantello dug his heels in to force the changes.
And I could feel my fingernails grow while sitting through “Thank Goodness”. Because when it was over, all I could say was thank goodness!
During “As long as you’re mine”, she looks straight at the camera and smiles, more than once. Way to sell a love song! However, Gavin did great - never took his eyes off Ali until the song was over. And his AHS Horror Stories hair ended up being a great unintended nod to looking like a scarecrow.
I would have loved to experience Nettles take on “Elle kan atum atum ella kunahmen” at the beginning of “No Good Deed”.
What I did like alot: - Alex Newell - recycled For Good
Watching it now, and I think it's fine. I wasn't expecting much, just something to whet our whistle for the return of Broadway and touring. (And to see where the Wicked team would throw money for this paid commercial.)
Really, I'm most flummoxed that they needed to hire V (formerly Eve Ensler) to flesh out a synopsis and through in some feel-good Wicked bullet points?

''BTW, who the heck is Ariana DeBose’s agent or manager? Girls in everything but a Charmin toilet paper commercial! Or did I miss that?''
Nope, you didn't miss Ariana DeBose's Charmin commercial. But is it so hard to give her credit for her career year? She was featured in Netflix's ''The Prom''; appeared in Apple TV's ''Schmigadoon!,'' sang in last night's ''Wicked in Concert,'' and will debut later this year as Anita in the new big-screen ''West Side Story.'' If you can't see or appreciate Ariana's talent, fortunately others can, like Ryan Murphy, Barry Sonnenfeld, Baayork Lee and Steven Spielberg.
I have always loved this musical...but I must agree that this fell flat for me. I love Ariana and she had one of the tougher songs to perform. But I personally want someone with more vocal power in this role for the movie. I think Amber caught a lot of people's attention.

I enjoyed the mash ups and reimagined performances best. I thought it was so interesting that Casey Cott, not Corey Cott, would be performing a Broadway song.
Fun concert!
"
Powell is freshly single?! I didn't get the memo on that! He was truly a standout for me, as was DeBose, and Amber Riley. (That pause in Defying Gravity before the final run? Chills!)
Erivo I enjoyed, but much like Cantone's Wonderful, the lack of context made the lyrics feel overly long and repetitive.

I'm baffled by this concert. What was the point? Why not wait till the 20th anniversary for something more spectacular? And did they not have any rehearsal? Everyone sounded rough.

I haven’t watched the full concert, just clips, but I guess the point was to raise money? Because I haven’t watched the whole thing, I don’t know what organization or cause they were asking for donations for. But based on the reports on here, they asked frequently.
It was literally a fundraiser FOR PBS. They seem to have produced it.
I could only get about 1/2 way through.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I actually always like that lyric because it sounds like Glinda believes she is saying something profound when it is in fact garbage

Dude. Are you nuts? That is easily the BEST lyric in the entire score!!!
