Will the Marriott Marquis ever be demolished?

They messed up 45th Street when they built this.  Furthermore, it's an eyesore.  Just one big block of grayness.  Will they ever tear it down?

Yes, it’s planned for early 2024. They’re putting a parking lot where the hotel is and an outlet mall will be where the theatre is.

And they don’t even let you use the bathrooms anymore unless there’s a show. Unless you’re talking about the ones in the lobby on the 8th (?) floor.

I used to go to the lobby on the 8th floor and just chill there before a show, but the security will stop you now and demand to see a room key, otherwise, they will deny you entry.

Kind of insensitive post. To put this up the Hayes,The Morosco and Bijou were demolished at great emotional cost to many preservationists and theater professionals. Some of us here remember the protests.

The Astor and Victoria theaters,two movie theaters that had seen better day were also demolished.

It's been happening since Broadway reopened. I was turned away a couple times because I didn't have a room key or reservation. Sometimes, I did manage to sneak by if there was a crowd in there. Frankly though, I prefer the Drama Bookshop anyway.

Ummmm...I was there today for 3 hours charging my phone and working on my computer. 8th floor lobby has never been a problem. I remember there was one day they were asking for keys and I just said "I am going to check in" and was never stopped." I have been sitting up there for years. But all spring and summer on matinee days.

I’m there all the time. I have never once over the years have had any trouble being there. Hell, I can’t even begin to count the number of other theatre workers I’ve run into there pre shift, during my break etc. I know that the hotel didn’t want those who weren’t staying there to access certain areas. However, they fixed that issue. In order to go to certain floors of the building you need to scan your key card. But, say you wanna go take the elevator to 8 where the lounge and check in area is, you don’t need one.

Oh I know. I have been there plenty of times too. But last summer, there was a security guard walking around the 8th floor asking people if they were staying at the hotel. When I said no but I was going to a show at the Marquis Theatre, he said I had to leave. Could have been one overzealous guard but looks like it's happened to a few people....

I’ve been there numerous times since Bway reopened and haven’t run into this issue. I usually just take the escalators, but I’ve sat in the lobby for hours charging up, and even used the bathrooms on the conference floors if there’s no conference happening (since they aren’t locked like some of the other floors).
