"Today was worth remembering!!! "Max had big shoes to fill (Yes, I saw Hugh in April). But let me tell you.. Max Clayton was a star tonight! He lead the band, smiling from ear to ear. He can really sing and dance!! So happy I was able to be a part of tonight. At the end of the show Sutton gave him praise as well as all the understudies that filled in tonight!! Another note--- How did she not win the Tony??? Thank you to all the cast, crew, and musicians! Hope you feel better Hugh..
Our spectacular standby, Max Clayton, steps into the role of Harold Hill beginning Tuesday, June 14. Hugh Jackman will return to the Winter Garden Theatre on Wednesday, June 22. Max, you better grab your Harold Hill suitcase and get on the next train to River City!
He didn't shave:

That curtain call is absolutely adorable. Filling in unexpectedly for one of the biggest stars alive today isn’t an enviable task, it’s really wonderful to see the audience showering him in love.

That's great to hear!!!
Did you originally have a ticket with Hugh and choose to keep it or did you get your ticket through TKTS or rush or lottery?
So glad, but unsurprised, to hear he is amazing - Clayton is so talented! I wish I could see him as Harold Hill. I saw Jackman back in May, and he was fine, but nothing super special.

Originally had tickets to see Hugh. (I went with my daughter in April, was going to attend last night with my husband).
We were originally in the mezzanine. I canceled my Hugh tickets and for the same price bought tickets in the orchestra.
Oh, good for him! I'm glad it went so well and that he was appreciated.

I'm so happy to see all the love Max is getting from the audience and also The Music Man social media and Hugh and Sutton. She posted the curtain call video too and Hugh commented on it and then reposted it. Hoping to see the show over the weekend.
Probably the best looking Harold Hill there's been on Broadway.

Uh… yeah.
Head's up! There are a lot of side orchestra seats priced at $99 that are usually $209 if you're interested in seeing Max! I picked up mine for tonight!

Praying that some will be reduced down for Friday or Tuesday nights! Enjoy!

I remember him from DOLLY! He's so handsome.
He and his boyfriend (fiance?) Matt Doyle are certainly having one helluva week.
PLEASE tell me they're both as kind and sweet in person as they seem.

Fiance? Look close at some of their photos. It seems that they are wearing wedding bands. Is it possible the got married backstage at RCMH after Matt's Tony win?

Dolly - Did they ask you to be the flower girl or were you still recovering from getting really up close and personal with the Take Me Out cast?

If they asked me to be their flowergirl I would know for sure if they had gotten married.
The only reason I got close to the TAKE ME OUT cast is because I was testing the purity of the water used in the onstage showers.
(You know how I feel about purity in its every form!)

I never had the pleasure of meeting Max, but I’ve met Matt and he seemed genuine and kind-hearted. My friend also got me a Cameo from him for my birthday in April, 2020, and he went above and beyond the requirements: he sang two songs and left a heartfelt personalized message that did not feel scripted or phoned-in.

Saw today's matinee. Max got two minutes of applause upon his reveal and kept the audience in his palms until the very end. He was sensational. He made the part his own and I truly loved every aspect of his performance.

I saw the show at the end of April and saw Max as Marcellus. Didn’t even realize he was an understudy for that part until I was checking out the playbill again tonight and saw the slip! I thought he was so charismatic as Harold’s “second in command”, so I’ve no doubt he could carry the main role. Wish I was local so I could check him out as Harold, but am glad I got to see him in the production at all. He was incredibly charismatic.
