Order up! The filmed capture of Waitress: the Musical starring Sara Bareilles is coming to movie theaters this December.

Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. rights to the filmed musical from composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson, following its critically acclaimed world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival.

Waitress: the Musical is set to release nationwide on December 7, 2023 in partnership with Fathom Events as a unique and must-see theatrical experience.

jeez, of all the film distributors this ended up with Bleecker Street/Fathom Events? None of the major players must have wanted to put this in theaters, Bleecker is pretty close to the bottom of the barrel. Though I suppose streaming rights will be separate and announced later.

Has anyone seen a list yet of specific theatres/cities where it will be playing? I know tickets aren’t yet on sale but I’m just dying to know if it will be showing in my area… (we do have a theatre that frequently shows Fathom Events so fingers crossed!)

Are there major distributors who have released proshots of musicals in theaters?

Most Fathom Events are usually only in theatres for 2 days and only 1 showing each day so if WAITRESS is actually going to be in theatres for 5 days consider yourself lucky.

Tickets are on sale now on the Fathom website. I got mine.

What I want to know is, who is TweetyPie1?

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/07/movies/waitress-the-musical-review.html

Brett Sullivan’s live capture confirms the show’s biggest asset, nearly 10 years after its premiere: Sara Bareilles’s enduring wonder of a score, which skillfully melds a pop melodicism rooted in the 1970s with the narrative demands of musical theater. Bareilles’s first Broadway effort displays a joyful confidence and an unerring sense of emotional release. Unfortunately, the glare of the cameras also highlights flaws that were easier to overlook onstage, mostly having to do with the way power imbalances are depicted.

I was just listening to an interview with Sara Bareilles and producer Jessie Nelson on the podcast The Business With Kim Masters. They said the Waitress:The Musical was filmed before they had a distributor and they hope eventually to be on a streamer. They didn't say anything about that deal already being set up.

Tried to get tickets but it's fully AMC A-List ineligible angry Will have to find time and $ to set aside later!

Yeah, what I heard was that they wanted to go straight a streamer, but nobody was interested. That's why they did the Tribeca premier and now this theatrical release. It's all in the hope of eventually finding someone who wants it.

I wish more Broadway shows did this. I would love to go back in time and see some of my favorite shows again and again and again.....

Anyone see this tonight? I have tickets to a showing tomorrow and suspect that it will start more or less on time as opposed to having ~20 minutes of ads and previews beforehand like a normal movie but wanted to check to confirm. I was considering trying to see another movie beforehand but not sure I’ll have enough time.

I went tonight.  You definitely want to get there at showtime.  We were late due to popcorn by like 5 minutes and it was just starting.

My friend sadly has COVID and can't use her ticket, so I have an extra ticket for tonight's 7:00 showing at the Union Square AMC, if anyone is interested.

I did this in a three movie day (FNAF, Waitress, and The Boy And The Heron) this was number 2 and the amount of whiplash i got going from FNAF to Waitress to The Boy And The Heron was... oh boy. Waitress and The Boy And The Heron HURT ME. And fnaf was great as always, 17th viewing. But i'd give this an 9/10, i liked it.

We just got in from seeing this. I have to say I loved this. I went in knowing almost nothing about it, and I am very glad we went.

I guess it depends on the theater. We saw it at Union Square in NYC and it started a full half hour after the announced time. The 2:30 show started at 3 pm.

Good news they have added a couple of days so now some theaters are showing this until Wednesday. I’ll have to go again hopefully.  I guess the approx 995 x I saw it on stage (usher) wasn’t quite enough)..felt like home
