I'm on the West Coast and this has to be the worst opening song ever. Just horrific.

Well those of us on the East Coast loved it!
I didn't. I thought it was slightly offensive. It was more entertaining than last year though.
I quite enjoyed the opening, very much so, actually.

I loved it!
No offense, but people complain over the same things year after year. Is it really the worst opening ever?
Here in the Southwest, I thought it was funny. from RC in Austin, Texas
No, there have been worse (i.e. last year), degrassifan. I just don't think this compares to Hugh Jackman's "One Night Only" and some other great numbers I've seen open the show.
OMG...Scott?!? JENNAFAN?!?
It was better than others, but kind of got awkward for me half way though.

- It did not need Colbert and Shields etc.. NPH was fine by himself.
- The Hello number would have been 100x better, and I'd go as far to say would have been one of the best Tony Opening's in a long long time.
It wasn't the worst, but kind of pandering and cheap. I'm gay and I didn't love it. "Hello" would have been leagues better. Did the BOM team write the song?
No, most of the rhymes in the song were not false or near rhymes and made use of a Clement Wood, therefore the BOM writers did not write it.
It caught me off guard for sure...but I loved it anyway.
It didn't need Stephen Colbert, Brooke Shields or Bobby Cannavale...Neil owned the number and the show...
I loved it, and based on the cheering in the Laurie Beechman Theatre tonight, most of the people around me did, too.
I felt bad for Brooke Shields. I hope she's better on Addams Family.
In terms of recent Tony awards ceremonies, I preferred the 2009 opening number with Elton John, Stockard Channing/Aaron Tveit, WSS/Guys & Dolls, Dolly Parton, the cast of Hair, and Liza.
Loved the opening. Who wrote it?
Neil was spot-on and everyone was game for a good laugh.
I'd say that first 20min of the Tonys were kinda amazing - the opening and Barkin's speech...C'mon that was some good TV and it rocked
Neil and Hugh's number was awesome too. AWESOME broadcast and Im usually the cranky person posting crap.
I LOVED THE OPENING...what was not to love?...funny, witty literate and NEIL PATRICK HARRIS sold it to the rafters...why the nay-sayers?...IT'S THE THEATRE DARLINGS...REALLYY!
I F*CKING LOVED IT.
So hilarious.
East coast, ftw.
It was twice as long as it needed to be. It beat the one joke into the ground.

It was more offensive than anything Tracy Morgan said. It will result in bullying and teen suicides.
(I actually thought it was funny and made me think of the year Marc Shaiman kissed Scott Wittman when they accepted for Hairspray and Roxy said TVs all across the country shut off at that moment and people were turned off from buying tickets to Broadway.)
there may have been better opening numbers that received standing ovations afterwards, but i enjoyed this one too regardless of a standing "O" on the blogs or in the live audience.
oh for the love of God...I liked it and everyone I was watching it thought it was great.
I agree with Namo. They need to start a new It Gets Better campaign to deal with the fallout from this year's opening number.
