Just saw Wicked's via their Facebook page. Chills!
I wonder if Chicago will post something with All That Jazz? Will this be the norm with all shows reopening?
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Absolutely no way to know. I wouldn’t count on every show having something like The Lion King. Waitress didn’t stream their opening number. Hamilton didn’t do anything (as far as I know). I’m just thrilled we got what The Lion King and Wicked did!

I counted a 45 second ovation for Ginna Mason upon her entrance, and another 30 seconds of applause after “It’s good…”. Broadway beat the tour’s reopening night easily. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a lovefest at Wicked as strong as tonight since Idina appeared in the iconic red tracksuit.
Oh, what a night. My hands hurt from clapping. My eyes burn from crying. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ll say that there was loooong applause after many songs along with many standing ovations after numbers, mainly in act one. This was different than final performances where a lot of the audience will scream and be loud just to make it about them. This shouting and applause was obvious that it was meant to show appreciation to the cast, crew & everyone involved in bringing the show back to us tonight. The energy was so appreciative and it was something I’ve never really experienced before. It was beautiful.
This cast, uniformly, Is the best cast I’ve seen in this lhow since probably 2004 or 2005 at least. I don’t think there’s a weak link in it. The two absolute standouts for me were Ginna Claire Mason’s Galinda and Kathy Fitzgerald’s Morrible. Those are two roles that I feel are almost impossible to do and not copy the originals, but these two ladies made them their own and I honestly have not seen them played better in many years. Lindsay Pearce is a fantastic Elphaba - I really did love her. If you’re on the fence about returning to Oz, all I can say is do it. This cast is worth the return.
Covid checks went very smoothly and even with new metal detectors set up outside the theater, the VERY LONG line to get in moved extremely fast. I felt extremely safe in the Gershwin tonight and am so thankful I got to be there to experience this. A definite highlight of the theater going I’ve done in my life.
Just got back from Wicked. It was nuts. 3 full hours. So much applause. 8-10 standing ovations. Lots of crying (including me). Chenoweth's speech was lovely. Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie did a thing where they opened the front doors of the theatre for the audience to enter for the first time.
At the end, the audience kept applauding for several minutes even after the orchestra stopped playing and the lights went up. It was wild. Finally, the cast came back onstage with Stephen Schwartz and did another bow. Schwartz looked like he might give a speech, but he seemed on the fence, and when he walked forward he almost got hit by the curtain, and seemed to take that as a sign to call it a night.
Anyone have any videos of that final applause? I'd like to know exactly how long it was. Definitely the longest applause I've ever been a part of.
Shcwartz, Mantello, Platt (and son) were all there - and probably more.
It's been 9 years since I've seen the show, but I know it very well. I forgot some moments which was a real delight to rediscover. A lot more flaws than I remember, but also a good reminder that the show is really beautiful in a lot of ways, and the production is astoundingly well designed and choreographed.
The cast was pretty good but I've seen better. Ginna Claire Mason as Glinda absolutely stole the show for me. I've probably seen 7 or 8 Glindas and she's definitely up there among my favorites.
In case you can't tell, I used to be a Wicked superfan when I was in middle school - I saw the show many, many times when it was in San Francisco. Now you all know my secret past life before I was a New York theatre snob.
Thank you both for the reports!! I’m so excited to see it in a few weeks. Ginna Claire Mason is one of the best Glinda’s they’ve had, so I’m glad to hear she’s as fabulous as she was on tour.

What a great night! I was originally on the fence about going to see a show tonight. But I'm so glad I decided to see Wicked! It was an amazing night (and hopefully just a once in a lifetime experience)
I was really impressed with Lindsay and Ginna, honestly the entire company did such a great job! And the energy from the audience was so high too. I think we were all so happy to be there after the past year and a half (as you can see from the clips posted). I've never experienced cheering/applause/standing ovations like that! Even after the curtain closed and the finale music ended, everyone just stood there applauding until they raised the curtain again. It looked like Steven Schwatrz joined the cast onstage, as well as some other behind the scenes crew and the standbys. He was about to come forward (to give a speech?) and the curtain started to come down almost on him. Fortunately it didn't. As someone else mentioned Kristen Chenoweth came out at the beginning, but they didn't seem to have anything planned for after the show.
I saw a shirt that said "back for good" on it and the rest of the merchandise seemed to be the regular stuff. I also noticed signs that said eating and drinking was only allowed in the lobby, but I don't know how much they enforced that
I will also say that tonight's audience at Wicked was the best-behaved from a masking standpoint that I've seen in the past few months. I've been to a fair amount of mask-required theatre in the pat few months, and I almost always see people with their mask off, or under the noses, etc. I didn't see a single nostril tonight. Statistically speaking I'm sure there were some nose-cheaters, but I didn't see any. And people who took sips of their drinks were very good about promptly putting it back on after they finished their sip.
Again, no speech. I just can’t dig Villafañe in a blond wig, though I’m sure she made a charismatic Roxie.
Any word yet about “Chicago”, “The Lion King”, and “Hamilton”? No need to rush reviews and thoughts, I know everything started at different times tonight.
Was at Chicago tonight, and it was super electrifying, with a handful of standing ovations throughout.
Walter Bobbie gave a speech at the top of the show and dedicated the performance to Ann Reinking.
Bianca Marroquin deserves every praise possible, she was incredible for it being her first time playing Velma. She is a seasoned pro and fully delivered on all departments.
Lilias White brought the house down with her solo, she is giving a great featured performances and truly chewing all the scenery she could find, and she sounds great.
Ana Villafane was good, but definitely needs more performances to get more comfortable in the role. I couldn’t recognize her with the blonde wig when she first came out, but it sort of worked. She needs to tighten some lines (“Roxy Hart” monologue) and dancing sequences but overall has the charisma and comedy down.
Paulo Szot’s accent sometimes made it hard to understand a few lines, but he’s in great voice and has good stage presence.
The ensemble and band were in top form, a truly amazing night at Chicago.
(There was some commotion on the left mezzanine during the standing ovation of the last number, with some people shouting, fighting, or being loud and distracting the whole mezzanine form the last few lines of the show. I saw some people either leaving or being escorted out, let me know if anyone knows what exactly happened)
Glad to hear that audiences were well behaved in terms of masks. I wonder if there seemed to be a lot of phones out? My Tiktok feed is full of recordings from last night and people in the comments requesting more and more recordings of specific parts of shows etc. The general vibe on those threads was that nobody would be bothered by holding up your phone to record one song. I hope that isn't the new normal.

He's doing a Prizeo for it, so I imagine he'll be there
