It's not that THEY'RE above it, it's that the show doesn't need it at all. Why would a show that brings in $2 million a week without any names ever want to shell out for stars? There's just no universe where it makes sense.
None of this happening. That said, if you make a list of celebrities who could step into a Broadway show for one night coherently without a rehearsal, Ariana Grande doing Wicked would rank pretty high on that list.

The answer is to make $4M a week.

The reason would be so they could temporarily raise prices and make $4 million a week.
It's probably still not worth it though, since there's a risk people would lose interest in seeing the show once the movie stars leave, even at the old prices.

And then you'd probably have to pay them $1M a week so it'd all even out to no actual benefit.
Imagine Cynthia finding out she’s onstage for the majority of the show (an extremely raked stage, no less), and for her reward, has to run underneath the stage and up a ladder to emerge from the trapdoor to sing “No Good Deed”- 8 times a week.

Not only does the show not need it, neither do either of the two performers. Neither of them needs to be the 57th replacement in a 20 year old production at this point in their careers.
The fact that some of you are even entertaining this completely fake rumor is crazy. There is no universe where this would even come close to happening.
Oracle is reporting that Lencia Kebede, currently touring as Angelica in Hamilton, will become the first Black Broadway principal Elphaba when she takes over the role in March.
I doubt this will ever happen beyond MAYBE Ariana and Cynthia appearing during a curtain call or something, but for everyone wondering what financial gain there could be for doing this, maybe they would want to do this for fun?
The suggestion of “Aida” is at least plausible since she has stated she intends to return to Broadway and has expressed interest in that specific musical.

Very excited but it’s a shame this took so long. I saw her on tour and her vocals are amazing, she’ll be amazing if rumors are true!
