I would guess they will get more merchandise now that they are open. Programs require photos that happen during previews and then they have to be designed and printed.

I used to want Bobby to be queer but I've realized as time goes on- that that's an answer to Bobby.
And that's why Sondheim isn't in favor of it.
Bobby is ambivalent and his/her's questions are existential more than sexual.
Our world is filled with people who don't know what they want, and we all are capable of going through periods of that and having it feel an emotional burden.

The UK production had a small range and was quite busy stall post show from what I remember.
The base ball cap with the wording does anyone still wear a hat was a popular buy.
T shirts, mugs, posters, I think there was only the one normal show program . Also a grey hoodie with the another 100 people written on the back.

The fact that we can ALL go through those experiences is an even stronger argument for queer Bobby, IMO. I get that the added dialogue (which is now cut) was an effort to make it clear that Bobby’s journey is not about his sexuality, but I also don’t think Bobby has to be straight for that to be the case, especially in 2021.

As a queer woman, I can promise it’s not an answer lol. She could be bi and absolutely still have all the same issues.

Yep. That’s the entire point of Elliot’s vision, and Sondheim is on record saying he loves the staging of the opening because of the cramping.
also, I’m tired of the London backing track! Can’t wait for the Broadway cast recording.

right but i think the point being made above is that while that may work on the stage (the cramped space in the middle of the stage), on TV it makes no sense. I agree.
thought they looked fun/good though. Really digging Anisha's Joanne look, too.

There was another video posted by the production of the performance of this song in the theater either at first preview (2021) or opening night. I just saw it for the first time a few days ago and now I can’t find it. I really liked it and preferred it over this one even though they are very similar I suppose. The claustrophobia made more sense in that video. I couldn’t stop watching it and it got me even more excited for my trip in three weeks. If someone can find it can you post it here?

Not really about the show itself. But I just got the opening night playbill I ordered and am pretty ecstatic about it. Might be a dumb question, but does anyone know if they are currently allowing people to get playbills signed via (snail)mail? Obviously they’d require a donation to BC/EFA, just thought I’d ask.

He did the GMA performance, too. Odd pairing of age between him and LuPone.

Joanne deliberately has a younger husband in this revival. Terence Archie must be at least 30 years younger than LuPone, right?

I don't know about Archie, but Ben Lewis, who played the role in London, is exactly 30 years younger than Patti. The character is definitely intended to be a younger trophy husband.
As the stans say to the slightest criticism of the show (or performances of it on TV), it's Marianne's VISION! Her VIIIIIISSSSSIIIIIIIOOOOONNNNN!!!!!!!!

She's a masterful theater director, but her vision didn't translate well to the Macy's Parade outdoor format. I blame the GMA segment producer who coordinated the show's appearance. Badly. Had they put the set piece inside the studio the number would've served the goal -- advertising -- much better. Floating the badly lit interior in the middle of the street, accompanied by erratic lip sync -- just looked awkward. Rather than critique those who found the TV performance lacking -- and on two boards, a majority -- I invite loyalists to recognize that it was a disappointing bit of media packaging. To be disappointed in how the segment served the revival doesn't make anyone a "hater."

Gay men have existential questions too. Bobby could be gay and not questioning his sexuality. He could also be bi and not questioning his sexuality. She could also be Lesbian and not questioning her sexuality. And all variations of sexuality and pronoun...

Whoops, I see I'm only repeating what's been said before and far better than I have.
