I'll guess and say they tried to stunt cast one of the lead roles and nothing worked out. The tour should do well.

Honestly the show was troubled from the gate with Megan’s illness starting during first previews. The show is an Olympic event for the two female leads. It needed more consideration and a plan for the leads that was more sustainable. No reputable actress is gonna jump into that as a replacement. They don’t want to burn themselves out. im glad I saw it during the first week even thought Megan was out. The energy was off the charts.

I said this is one of the grosses threads awhile back but I just think this is about the high end of a length of run you can expect for a show like this. It was never going to run for years and years. It's a niche movie with a show that very much appeals to NYC Broadway fans but isn't going to hit mainstream appeal like the shows that have played forever. It also wasn't going to capture the youth zeitgeist/Tik Tok crowd in ways that shows like Hadestown and Dear Evan Hansen did. So a run of over a year and a half seems about right if not a bit longer than you might expect. This was always bound to run out of gas sooner rather than later. I think the fact that it was such a massive success was more of a surprise than the fact that it petered out quickly.

No matter what we think of this show, I have to admit it has some of the wittiest lyrics we've heard in some time. "Falling Apart" is a wordsmith's dream.
And that "toxic / clocks tick" rhyme was chef's kiss.

Well, on the bright side, this show is going to become a staple of regional theaters when the tour ends. It’s brilliantly written and a real crowd pleaser. It will stil be around, just in other forms.

I agree with everything you said, except for the fact that it did have its moment with the TikTok generation. Remember when "She stole my life / She made me cuckoo" and "That...was...rude" were both trending?

And those theater kids on TikTok who can’t go to NYC to see Broadway shows will hopefully make the tour a success!

Seeing what both Jinkx Monsoon and Whitney Leavitt did for a show like Chicago, it honestly seems like the producers are just leaving money on the table. Not saying there was an easy out or anything in anyone’s contracts, but just makes you wonder.
Also, major missed opportunity from the merchandising team for not capitalizing on the “that was rude” TikTok trend. Am I the only one who found all of the merch to be basic and very cut/paste?
It’s as if the producers didn’t care enough to reignite interest or re-market the show, aside from recasting Madeline once.

Any ideas who we think we'll see on the tour? I could imagine Jonalyn Saxer being involved.

I'd love to see Ximone Rose bring her Viola across the country. She's got a ridiculous voice.
Edited: She's 33. Sorry about that.

And yet Beaches hasn’t announced its closing?

Maybe Jessica Vosk leads the tour? She said they were in talks before, and had previously been open to touring (she was up for Company but they couldn’t afford her). She has a rather strong social media following, which could be good for tour sales…unless they plan on keeping Beaches open through the summer.

And Tom Felton for Harry Potter - really should have at least recasted Viola a few times at least.

Whenever I see somebody bring up the Company tour not being able to "afford" her, all I can think is: what was she asking, exactly? She is not a name that can demand high salaries.

Everyone in here saying "more stunt casting", "the producers didn't try", "Laura Benanti"...I don't think truly grasp how difficult it is to find female actors, with name recognition, that not only CAN do this, but would WANT to. I am sure every name thrown out from Benanti to Sherie to Scherzinger (who originated Viola in workshops) were approached. But said actors must WANT to do the job, and it is NOT an easy job to take on. Don't forget Megan Hilty, of all actors probably one of the best and most trained singing voices out there, had to take a break for vocal strain. If i were any of the aforementioned names, I wouldn't want to do it either. The reward is not there for the intense effort required, especially as a replacement.
I will miss the show. I'm sure the tour will do gangbusters!

At first it surprised that the show was a hit and then they did do anything to stop the bleeding, funny thing.
I got luck to see the entire original cast and had a blast, it just is a big funny comedy and Hilty was especially amazing.

All this! Glad to have seen the show with Megan and Jennifer. Hope to see them again soon in the future.

Respectfully, in an age and economy where we have shows with immense critical acclaim barely taking flight, a 666 performance run is nothing to sneeze at.
it may not have been a financial success but by today’s average run? Good for them.

This show should also provide a good roadmap for where THE LOST BOYS is likely heading.
Splashy, expensive musical based on niche film gets good-not-great reviews, most likely only takes an inconsequential Tony or two despite boatload of noms, cast album probably goes viral and boosts interest, solid holiday season, quick and spectacular collapse in second year, summer 2027 closing.
Would be a best-case scenario IMO. Just look at the average ticket price despite the increasing gross at the moment.
