What is your favorite West Side Story song? Mine is Somewhere.
“Anita’s Soliloquy” in the middle of Act 2.

It's my favorite Broadway score of all time. Picking my favorite part is easy: the Mambo section from the Dance at the Gym. Picking a favorite song is harder, but probably Something's Coming.
Maria. This is the best version I have ever heard live. Brought the house down on that very magical New Year's Eve night.

I also like America, but the film version.
Is all the songs an option? This is one of those musicals where I can't place down a favorite for I really love the show's songs.
Tonight (Quintet) - The buildup of intensity is so powerful.

Which version of America do you prefer? The stage version or the film version?

The film version. I also love "Somewhere".

Maria because the Santana song became the first time I heard of West Side Story
I Feel Pretty ( if only cos it would tick Sondheim off )
Depends on the day. I go back and forth between A Boy Like That and One Hand, One Heart.

Its a tie for me. I think Somewhere is one of the most beautiful and sad songs ever written , and Tonight can still induce goosebumps with the right singer and orchestrations (i.e., lush).
"Maria" - no matter how many times I've heard it - but if it's sung right it has the power to still move me to tears.
My favorite musical section: The Mambo from the "Dance at the Gym". Bernstein did his homework - there is some serious Latin FIRE in that number.
"One Hand, One Heart" which I believe was originally written for CANDIDE.

When I directed a high school production of WSS, as my Tony was finishing the song "Maria", a woman in the audience loudly yelled "I'm gonna change my name to MARIA!" and the audience roared with laughter. I, of course, sat there with my arms folded in anger because the audience kept doing things like that.
Edit! I forgot to mention my favorite WSS song. It is the Tonight Quintet. As a child seeing the movie, I thought it was so exciting that each group/person wanted something from the same night. And then to have the realization that if even one of them gets what they want out of the night, then no one else can! It was my painful/pleasurable introduction to dramatic irony and I've been addicted ever since.

One Hand, One Heart is a new fave of mine
Tonight (Quintet) and the 1961 film version of America are my favorites, but Tonight, Something's Coming and One Hand, One Heart are also in there. Hell, the whole score is terrific.
