HANGMEN is a good play but I don't know if there's an audience for it in this crowded crowded spring season. Maybe with a bigger star than Dan Stevens, but not with a cast of a similar calibre to its Atlantic and pre-Covid bway runs.
As some of us stated before (and were not believed lol) Hangmen announced their opening at the Golden in April. The main reason for the lack of announcement on a return was trying to figure out casting for the two stars (Dan Stevens had to walk away some time ago due to scheduling. I was really hopeful they could work things out to get Mark Addy to return, but alas).
So really, Girl From the North Country just has the Broadhurst as a viable option for a return. Unless another show at a relatively intimate theater closes up shop soon. I'm not confident it will return. I know the team has confidence in its Tony chances, but it just is absolutely not going to win Best Musical (it could get other wins, but Musical is the only prize which would change the trajectory of its finances). The Tonys want to awards original musicals above all in that category, and they have SIX, A Strange Loop, Flying Over Sunset, Mrs. Doubtfire, Mr. Saturday Night, and Paradise Square which fit that bill this season. If only GFTNC could have qualified for the previous Tony Awards where it might have taken down Moulin Rouge thanks to its original story, and if not, at least would have gotten tons of attention as one of the only eligible musicals. Oh well.
Any news on a possible return of GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY? The website still has the "Receive notices of updates" sign up on it.

So Doubtfire - a movie - is more original than GFNC which is an original story with Dylan's music? Huh?
They’re still posting videos on their Instagram and replying to commenters saying “Stay Tuned” so it’s sounds like an announcement might be forthcoming.
I can’t imagine it would be a long time otherwise they’d be S.O.L

Thanks, I hadn't thought of checking their Instagram. Hope you're right!

Doesn't take a genius to understand they meant original score given the other titles listed. Ya'll just love being condescending don't you?
I hear people speculating about off-Broadway. But in today's market, that seems dubious. The point of a return in early to mid-Spring would be to capitalize on Tony season, nominations, buzz, being part of a handful of musicals seeking the award; an off-Broadway transfer would leave the Tony voters in the cold. If only the Broadhurst is available, it's sad news indeed. I suspect the show will have to come back this season or we won't see it again.
I think that if North Country returns and stays with Shubert it would go to New World Stages or Stage 42. I just don't see them giving up the Booth or Golden for this show.

Very much hoping this comes back. Truly excellent art, the likes of which I haven’t really seen on the B’Way before.

"Doubtfire" isn't a jukebox show. To much of mainstream musical theater people, there's no difference between Bob Dylan and ABBA. They're not Sondheim, R&H, etc., etc.
New rumors: that Girl from the North Country will stay at the Belasco, and Mockingbird is of indeterminate status. Has anyone seen ticket availability for Mockingbird? Is the set for Girl still sitting in the Belasco? Was their a load out?

Unless I’m missing it but I don’t think tickets are on sale ? Or maybe Telecharge stopped ticket sales. I really didn’t take notice until now. But Telecharge does have a note saying the show will reopen at the Belasco in June.

Broadhurst... possibly The Schoenfeld?
Staying at the Belasco sounds cheaper than moving. Very strange. I loved this show. Thought Mare Winningham was amazing to watch.
I went to Girl twice and really was impressed by the marvelous cast that made this show so powerful. I sincerely hope for their return to the stage.

I was just listening to an interview from yesterday, and Conor McPherson said, "It's coming back to Broadway now in April."
Finally a hopeful sign! I'm planning a trip to New York late April and was hoping the show would return. Hope they announce soon!

Well they'd better announce and get this thing on sale soon if that is actually happening.
Unless the rumor of MOCKINGBIRD closing for good is true, then this would have to play the Broadhurst or Imperial, neither of which is an ideal size for this small musical. Its marquee is still up at the Belasco.
So there hasn't been a load-out, or a replaced marquee? It's odd that Mockingbird wouldn't immediately put up a new one, consistent with its exemplary media campaigns (one of the best of the last few years). Yes, June 1 isn't near. But still. And as others note, you cannot buy Mockingbird tickets at this time. Odd. Nothing seems a done deal.

Casting call out looking for a male swing. Says rehearsals start April 4th with the first performance in mid to late April.

Looks like the entire cast as of 1/23 is returning, except Alex Joseph Grayson. The casting call specifically calls for a Black male, and Grayson was the only Black male swing in the show back in January.
I was told Kudisch is starting a new musical out of town in a couple months.

Always possible that he returns to GIRL and then leaves for that regional contract. (Wanna give us a little hint of what it might be?)
I'd assume this is taking the Broadhurst? Imperial seems too big and is rumored to be booked. Are there any other theaters available currently?
