^^^^ I would like this a lot.
As others have said, until the vax situation for kids gets sorted out, none of these are practical. Feels like an ideal time for AIDA — there’s no world in which that runs longer than one year in a barn like the New Am. And by that point the next show could be ready.
What’s the status of PRINCESS BRIDE? Was a director ever attached to that?
If the grosses are that bad, I don't think it's the SHOW. It's that fact that the audience isn't there. So, no, I don't think they'd close Aladdin just to open some big, lavish revival or new show. That doesn't make sense. They want to make money. This show was making money before the pandemic. So, either, they close the show all together and just wait it out. Or limp along. It's very similar to their Disneyland property. They closed Frozen there and have yet to announce anything. I suspect if Aladdin closes it'll be awhile - maybe next Fall before we hear of anything new.
If they’re looking for a bigger theater for “Slave Play” they can move it in there.
I do think the Winter will see a lot of closures. Disney won't have their theater sit empty for too long. The proposed Beauty & the Beast revival seems most likely. Hercules maybe? Mary Poppins back for a short engagement?
Everyone is missing the point that the reason they’d close Aladdin is to force people to The Lion King, which is what they thought would happen by closing Frozen first. If Aladdin does close in January, I would not expect another Disney show on Broadway until 2023.

I would pay really good money to see a Disney adaptation of Slave Play.
Maybe Billy porter could play Mary Poppins

If Aladdin closes, I wonder if it would make economic sense to just move Lion King back there. Yes, there's a cost to that but it avoids the theatre sitting empty AND means they don't have to pay the Nederlanders for the use of the Minskoff. If there's nothing for Disney in the later stages of the pipeline, it may be an option.
Aladdin is a unique case because its producers (one of them, anyway) own the theatre. That means they have to pay to run the theatre, but also means they don't have to pay someone else to. Also, its highly unlikely non-Disney properties will run there for any extended time. From Disney's perspective as a theatre owner, thy don't have to try and "bid" to get shows, but have fewer potential replacements if something closes.
Was there any reporting on why they decided to move LION KING from the New Am to the Minskoff in 2006, instead of putting MARY POPPINS at the Minskoff or another theatre?

I don't know if there was ever any official word, but I just assumed putting their biggest show in the prime location is worth the rent, because it's not going anywhere, and it would give them flexibility to use the New Amsterdam for whatever new show they wanted to premiere and/or close.

Please God, no.

If they’re trying to cut cost wouldn’t make sense to move Lion King. Just leave it where it is. They could close Aladdin and do a series of Disney concerts. I’m sure people would pay good money to hear Broadway stars sing some Disney classics.
saxpower is onto something. It's called retrenchment. Although some folks here want to pretend that we are not facing an impending demand crisis, we are and, as I have written before, the SVOG money is creating false economies that will not last very long. Once SVOG dries up and reality sinks in, expect a lot of retrenchment both among the existing and planned shows while we ride this out. Unfortunately, broken optimism usually fuels a dramatic swing towards pessimism (far beyond what would happen if we were moderating that optimism now). We will get through this but we will have to pass through a really ugly period first, especially for shows that depend on target audiences that, for one reason are another, are lacking.

Cameron Macintosh wanted the New Amsterdam.

This is exactly what I had been hearing before things reopened that ticket sales really are not strong and they are looking like major closures coming in January. And then not too many things Announcing for a solid year. They over extended and the demand is just not there.
In terms of Disney projects. Yes, they are hoping to bring a revival of beauty (I just hope it’s not this abridged version) up first. Around the time Aida will be coming.
Princess bride is about 18 months out before any announcement.
And Hercules is somehow just left on the back burner. Which I really think they could give more consideration to.
But unfortunately there won’t be much in terms of kids shows for a little bit. (Like 2023)

Hmm...I'm not quite sure where you are pulling these "factoids" from -- but I sure hope you're washing them (and your hands) vigorously!

Both Thomas Schumacher and Anne Quart have spoken on a few podcasts over the past couple of months. Hercules is definetly not on the back burner. I don't see them closing Aladdin unless they have a new production ready to go. After all it is their theatre unless the companies shareholders aren't holding out. Between Beauty, Aida, or Hercules, I hope it is the later of the three. A limited engagement of Poppins seems like a treat. It does seem like the show closed so abupt in 2013, this could be a proper send off for the show!

So you think they should just bleed money every week for the hell of it?
Not sure what you are saying about shareholders.
Unless I am missing something, your post betrays a jaw-dropping level of obliviousness.
I did think Aladdin's days were numbered even before the pandemic but I wouldn't see this as any sort of reliable source.

i'm maybe a little surprised that the name "Hunchback" hasn't been tossed into this frothy mix of speculation...
