It's all Broadway names. Most of which have Broadway credits. I thought Jess LeProtto was leaving A Beautiful Noise to do this, but I guess not now.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
...What were you expecting, Hugh Jackman & Sutton Foster? On paper this seems no better or worse than any other jukebox musical with a cast of box-office-nobodies. The material is what will make this show sink or swim.
I'm still dubious they're going to be making it to Broadway. The oracle isn't the only one who's talking about how this may not make it to first preview...
Absolutely shocked they are still continuing with this...

I'm gonna guess they're banking on the catalogue of music and not the cast."
I think if you were to ask 100 random people to name a Huey Lewis song -- the small subset who are able to do so would say "Power of Love" -- which can now be heard (with the extra added bonus of a flying car) at the Winter Garden.
I've been fortunate enough to see this, LEMPICKA, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, SUFFS and HELL'S KITCHEN in their pre-Broadway runs. I will say I enjoyed this show more than any of those, except for W4E. It seems to me this show kinda fits the slot that SHUCKED recently vacated -- something small, slight, simple and enjoyable. I'm not claiming it's a great work of art, but when I saw it, I cared about the characters, I enjoyed most of the songs and told friends to go see it. I'm very curious to see what they have changed since its initial run in San Diego.

I do not think I would have voted for him to win -- to me, Ben Platt gave a performance deserving to be on a list of all-time great musical performances -- but I think it was absurd that he was not nominated. He was great in the show, which IMO was far better than it was given credit for being.
I had zero interest in seeing this show until this announcement. I am more apt to see it now, although I still admit that it is not a slam dunk. The show itself just sounds unnecessary.

I saw "Bandstand" and Corey Cott was terrific in the show. I know Laura Osnes has been "cancelled" on Broadway, but she was wonderful in that show also. She should have gotten at least Tony nomination IMO.

Actually, I think 100 random people would say "Heart of Rock and Roll" first and then maybe "I Want a New Drug".
sure, this show seems ill conceived in terms of being likely to sell tickets. thats the producers' problem. but now to act like the CAST isnt exciting because Lady Gaga and Harry Styles arent leading it--its so petty, its so boring, it just screams "i cant believe I didnt even get an audition for this!"
Zoe Jensen, John Dosset, Tamika Lawrence, Josh Breckenridge--these are all actors who we have seen do great stuff and who we should be thrilled are getting new work (and hopefully a chance to siiiiiing for Jensen and Lawrence). I have zero interest in this show but the CAST is not the issue, and is actually a positive development for anyone looking at this remotely honestly.
I wonder if Huey or some business entity attached to the band would actually pump some money into the show to at least ensure that it opens & gets some write ups!
Remember, Huey Lewis & The News, the band, came to an abrupt end in 2018, because Huey developed major hearing issues as a result of Meniere's Disease. - He said he can't hear well enough to sing in proper pitch, anymore! (I believe that that's one of the main reasons he became so involved with the project, dating back to it's Old Globe staging. - It was something for him to work on, not long after his singing career came to sudden end.)
In the end, aside from the old CDs, music videos & DVDs, this is the only thing "Huey Lewis & The News" going on at the moment. I can see them investing in it, so that it makes at least a minimal splash & maybe opens up to some kind of future with touring and/or licensing. Aside from maybe some archival media releases in the works, this is all THE BAND...or should I say BRAND...has going on at the moment.

Power of Love has over 400,000 streams on Spotify, Heart of Rock and Roll has under 30,000. Power of Love made it to #1 on the Billboard charts and went gold. The numbers ain’t close.

Due to the popularity of the movie, I am not surprised. Just for laughs last night, I asked my wife to name a Huey Lewis song and then texted my brother and asked the same question. They both said "Heart of Rock and Roll" which is after all is the name of this upcoming show. My reason for mentioning the other songs was in response to another posters comment that the "Power of Love" is the only song people would know in the show and is already being sung in another show on Broadway.
