Hello. How is Kara doing as the newest "Roxie Hart" in "Chicago"? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks..RC in Austin, Texas 5:58 p.m CST
I was about to ask the the same thing! I really want to hear about her debut!
I think she's only had one performance and they're dark today. Looking forward to the reviews!
Yup. Only one. I didn't hear of anyone hear planning to go then -- or anytime soon.
My friend is a big fan so she's asked me to go with her before the end of her run. I've never seen Chicago, anyway. Should be fun.
Who is she?
Does anyone who speaks English ever see this show these days?
Yea, newintown, supposedly that's what kept DANCIN' and OH, CALCUTTA! running so long: foreign tourists, especially Asian men.
Personally, I'm waiting for Joe the Plumber to step into the role of Amos before I see CHICAGO again.

I saw Chicago last year for Ruthie Heshall and Terri White. I had to be the only English speaker in the audience. It was kind of fascinating. I felt like I was seeing the United Nations production of Chicago.
Going to see a long-running Broadway show is now like seeing a performance for the deaf with no sign interpreters. The jokes are met with an eerie silence.
From CHICAGO, THE MUSICAL's official Facebook:
Be sure to catch Kara DioGuardi on "Live with Regis and Kelly" this morning! She'll be performing a fantastic new medley of "Funny Honey" and "Nowadays."
Just watched. She has a nice voice but that performance really didn't give us much. She didn't dance. I did enjoy the arrangement of what she sang.
I think we know that she can sing. It's the acting and dancing I am curious about.
What happens to the Hot Honey Rag when a non-dancer performs the role?
According to a friend who does easily not lavish praise on Roxies, she is "stellar."
I really can't see how someone can perform "Hot Honey Rag" without dancing to it. In a video available online, Melissa Rae Mahon talks about how the various dance routines are "minimized" to meet a celebrity's dance skills. I hope Kara can handle the "fully nuanced" version of "Nowadays" / "Hot Honey Rag". from RC in Austin, Texas
The Regis and Kelly performance is up on youtube. Not bad. Lets just hope she can dance and act.

People really think her voice is that good?
i've heard her sing live several times, although i have not seen her in "chicago".
it's much more of a pop sound than a broadway sound, but she is a terrific singer. so good, in fact, and so pretty, that you kind of wonder why she ended up writing songs for other people instead of being the artist herself--given her age, she would've come along right at the height of the 90's singer-songwriter...
...which may be the problem. perhaps she got lost in a sea of girl singers.
then again, maybe she realized that writing songs for huge artists was a lot more lucrative than trying to score the big one herself. in which case, smart girl.
i'm surprised at the hostility that came from her casting in "chicago". when i first saw the press release, i thought, "ah, perfect!" even though she seems like more of a velma to me. maybe she just can't dance it.
speaking of chicago, is nikka graff lanzarone done already?

I think her voice sounds exactly like she's been taking the advice she and the other judges on American Idol give to contestants. That said, it's decent, and better than a lot of people who have played the role. But I was so distracted by her hand! What was she doing?! That looked so strange to me.

Have not seen her in the show, but saw her in Times Square today for the event, and she sure looks fantastic.
It was a little too Christina Aguilera for my taste. Very oversung and too many pop star gestures. Not the worst rendition I've heard of the music, though.

They clearly wrote this to make the score more relatable to the Christina Aguliera demographic. I think Kara sounds gorgeous for what the arrangement is.
Can't wait to hear how she grows in the part.
(And god bless her if she can eat New York pizza before going onstage like she says!)
Do we know if this is actually how she sings it in the show? As a music professional, I'm sure she altered the arrangements to sing it for television.
On a side note, those of us that know Kara had a eating disorder, let's all squirm at Seth's joke...
