I don't care for her direction. I think Waitress is such a great show despite her over directing the show. Everyone that comes out of ART just looks "cheap" to me. Besides Comet, but that wasn't really a true ART production. But I'll never forget the awfulness of Finding Neverland and how cheap that whole show looked.

We know the songs and we know that ORFEH has the most powerful rocker voice on Broadway... So that's why...
I know Orfeh could sing the hell out of the songs. Lena and Rebecca Naomi Jones also have strong rock voices. Doesn't necessarily mean they'll fit into whatever the show will be about
This looks great! I can't wait to see it!

Finding Neverland on Broadway was definitely mediocre. But it was so, so much better, so much more interesting, dark and beautiful at the ART. The changes that were made to bring it to Broadway are what ruined it. I'm not sure how much of that is on Paulus, though -- I suspect it was largely the fault of Harvey Weinstein.
I wonder if there will be a wedding scene in the rain.

That would be so ironic!

It's always bugged me that most of the stuff she says in that song isn't actually irony, just unfortunate stuff.

But you don't know the story. It could very well be centered around an early 20s something character, as Alanis was 20 when the album was released. There's a lot that theatre magic can do, but it can't pass Orfeh off as an early 20s year old anymore.

Haven't you heard of blind casting???

THIS. In Cambridge it had complexity and layers and beauty.

Lena Hall would be perfect for the score. The idea of it makes me excited.
Idina Menzel seems to be the rumor!

YES! YES! YES! Hope she does more than just the workshop
I'm just glad it's not Lea Michelle

Holy sh*tballs. My interest in this just skyrocketted. The more I think about it, her involvement isn't shocking considering Tom Kitt's involvement. Also Glenn Ballard (the producer of Jagged Little Pill) produced Idina's "I Stand" album.
What about this though?
Menzel is not, however, expected to take part in the ART production, as she is set to star in Roundabout's Skintight, running May 31-August 26, 2018.

If they can cast IDINA, why not ORFEH? Aren't tehy the same age?

Right now Idina is doing a 29-hour Reading. As the article itself stated, she is already contracted for Roundabout's production of Skintight at the same time as this is scheduled to run at the ART, so it is highly unlikely she will be doing the full production there.
If the character they are creating is appropriate for Orfeh then great, cast her, as I do think her voice will sit quite well with these songs, but keep in mind that readings are often done with people who are not necessarily right for the role because they are more interested in hearing how things sound with a certain voice-type. So Idina's involvement in the reading is still not indicative of what the character will actually end up being in the full production and I still maintain that if the character is someone close to Alanis's age when the album premiered (early 20s) then Orfeh would get laughed right off the stage if they tried to pass her for that.

Apparently, LaChanze's daughter is playing Idina's daughter in the reading. Funny how worlds collide!

I think I may be the singular person in the world who wishes they were developing a musical of SUPPOSED FORMER INFATUATION JUNKIE instead
My immediate thought is that they want to transfer after Boston. I would love to hear Menzel sing this live.

They really should just bring it straight to broadway.

What do people think of Carmen Cusack and what is wrong with Lea Michelle? She has starred in SA.
Carmen Cusack is beloved as both a talent and a person. Lea Michele gets acknowledgment as a talent, but numerous reports seem to indicate that she has a pretty bad attitude.
