Solea!! Cardoza!! I just saw them in Gatsby and The Notebook respectively and they are spectacular! I'm not familiar with Pepe Muñoz, but excited to go back to the Rouge to check him out, too! Stunning casting! ❤️
I saw John Cardoza as Christian on tour last summer. Excellent voice. B+ actor. Hopefully his interpretation will deepen over the course of a Broadway run. Solea Pfeiffer was the standout of The Great Gatsby at ART. She seems like a good fit for Satine.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
My question is if we're ever going to get appropriate casting for Toulouse-Lautrec. This ablest revisionism in casting is frankly disgusting and why I won't see the show. He's a real person and his disability was a crucial part of his identity. Casting able-bodied people in the role is inappropriate.

Unfortunately it looks like they’ve cut Christian and Satines bow specific costumes in the broadway production. The tour made a similar cut about a year ago. Just as Hailee received her bow dress a month ago.
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

I'm with you JSquared2. Has anyone else ever mentioned this? Go away SeanD2
When I saw the show last year I said to myself that was the absolute last time I'd ever see it again because I couldn't stand that audience. But damnit, Solea got me back today and her performance aside, I will say again - that is the last time I will ever step foot into that theater while that show is running.
Anyways, Solea was fascinating. I'm on record as being a HUGE fan of hers and will see any and everything she does and I hope this makes sense when I say it but she's just too big of a talent for that role. Her entire performance felt constrained like she just NEEDED to go above and beyond the limitations that character. This is NOT a criticism of her in any way it was just a fascinating thing to watch and her Satine is really the first one where I looked at her and thought "Oh yes, I understand how Christian could fall in love with her on sight, that makes perfect sense".

But that G*ddamn audience."
I have not seen MR in NYC since COVID. Curious: what is it about the MR audience that is any worse than others. I have been in some annoying audiences…how does MR stand out?
Thanks for the report Jordan on Solea. I am a huge fan as well. I had to reschedule my Nov visit to January and I am praying she is still in it. Does anyone know? I did a search but couldn’t find any info.
Anyone know what’s going on with Austin Durant? Hes been out quite a bit and Patrick Clanton has been going on for most performances and now Robert Petkoff is coming in from the tour and sending Kent Overshown out for the Toronto leg…which is odd since Overshown is already based in NYC

Most Broadway principals are contracted for at least six months, and Solea started performances in October, so you should be good! Just be aware that she doesn’t perform on Sundays.
