Jonas has definitely become a bigger name since How to Succeed (which was somehow over 12 years ago already…).
*sigh* not like this...
Someone on Reddit suggested they go the Little Shop route and rotate in new leads every few months. That's an idea I actually love for this show.

Another non-Jewish actor cast in a Jewish role. This may not make the headlines that the Funny Girl tour did but, especially in light of current events this is a misstep. Yes, other Jamies in the past haven't been Jewish but having Nick (when he doesn't call out) shout Shiksa on stage every night is a choice.

Helpful reminder that religion and sexual orientation as a basis for employment is, in fact, illegal. Hope this helps!

I think this is a more difficult show to rotate casts in and out of simply because it’s a lot more and harder material than Little Shop.
Maybe they should replace Nick Jonas with Ben Platt that would go down well here :p.

Well, yes.
I wish i could have seen Bailey do this, he sounds so good in everything I’ve heard from his run.
thank you Jordan for the reminder to go back & listen to Jonathan/Samantha Barks on YouTube. I never got to see the original, but I did see Adam & Betsy in 2013 and it was so so special. I agree that this music could fit Nick's voice a lot better than Les Mis did. And Adrienne singing Still Hurting?? COME ON. This 2025 Best Actress in a Musical race has truly turned into one for the history books.
Warren will be fantastic. Jonas? Not so much. Big fan of his music, but I can’t imagine his voice on this score. I also echo taking some issue with him not being of the Jewish culture, since that’s a big part of Jamie’s character, plot, and material.
Social media doesn’t seem as excited as producers might’ve hoped, but I’m sure it’ll sell well for a short run.
Oh, this appears to be another production from Seaview- I believe their third announced for next season, after Romeo & Juliet and Othello.

Good Night and Good Luck as well.
People are pearl-clutching about Nick Jonas’ casting as a Jewish character as if they announced he was going to play Tevye.
Lordy…
I did wonder if Adrienne would post a picture of a snake on her Instagram story like Audra did with the cow.
Oh well.

Are Josh Henry and Nick Edwards Jewish? I don't recall people freaking out their Jamies, but it's doomsday for Nick Jonas on Twitter?

Nick can’t act.
Why are we pretending he can act?
Last Five Years is all acting. There’s nothing else going on but the actor making choices in a dynamic song cycle.

I'm not understanding what's supposed to be hard about singing Last Five Years for a pop singer. It's a pop show.

It’s really not.

Weird comparison, Jamie makes many references to being Jewish in the show. There’s several songs that are specifically about his Jewishness.

Josh Henry did a (one night?) concert. During The Schmuel Song the audience started laughing at his horrendous Yiddish accent and even he broke character and started laughing. We all understood this was a one time thing to hear those two amazing performers sing and act that show.

also the show is gonna make Jamie, a successful overnight sexy white male novelist look just so completely unlikable cause he’s telling a black actress to try harder in a racist entertainment industry with cards stacked against her.
“I will not lose because you can’t win”
I dunno, sounds like micro aggressions now.
Maybe that’s an angle they’re going for?
Maybe Jason is changing some lyrics?

dont know what the discourse is on twitter and dont care to, but this is the same story we have seen before:
OF COURSE Nick Jonas can/should play a Jewish character. But when other minorities are played by the "wrong" actor, the world implodes for some people. Its just a glaring double standard. Lets get rid of all of the drama, and let actors act, chips falling where they may.
whether Jonas can do that remains to be seen but happy to see him try.

It's not a micro aggression. It's an aggression, regardless of race, full stop. And that's the point. Jamie is being awful to her in that moment, as couples sometimes are. This isn't some random coworker or stranger asking Cathy if she could maybe try harder; it's her husband cutting her in the way only those closest to us can.
I was about to ask if all nuance was dead, but this isn't even nuanced. It's willful ignorance
All the gay men who play straight romantic leads in musicals yet that's never mentioned. Yet if someone non Jewish plays Jewish and all hell breaks out. This world is ridiculous.
