I haven't used bway.com in over 7 years since I realized how big of a price difference it was to use their services, even when they had random discounts (upcharge for a balcony seat for me was > 50.00 for Hedwig). 

I can tell you SeatGeek cost me 442 and some change for two tickets. I don't know what the taxes were, but base price was 199.00 so all the fee + taxes came out to 22 dollars per ticket, which is about 11% of the total base price.

SeatGeek charges a flat 10% handling fee --- which is LESS than Ticketmaster or Telecharge, and MUCH less than Broadway.com.

You made me panic so I went and checked haha. Nope, this is a direct sale. I have the 'hide resale' selected by default, but IMO they make resales pretty obvious on a desktop browser version at least. Haven't used it on mobile browsers or their app (if they even have one).

Nowhere did ATerrifyingAndImposingFigure imply anything negative about Tony voters... Tony Voters, if they're doing their jobs properly, see every show that opens each season which can be A LOT of shows (and yes, I know not all voters see everything like they're supposed to, but that's a whole other can of worms).

It's easy to possibly forget about some earlier performances from the fall with the inundation of the spring shows. They're human, after all, and as humans we can forget or overlook things, including certain performance or performance elements from a show we saw months ago. It's actually for that reason that many shows that open in the fall or early winter will re-invite voters to attend the show again if it is still running."

Apparently the only way to have your point be heard is if you obey the overlords of these boards who are so high up on their horses they can see Mt. Everest. So I’ll comment on this if other people can learn to be more respectful :) 
 

I see what you’re saying. I still don’t think it’s difficult to forget a performance. I saw Chicken and Biscuits several times and I can picture the theater, I can picture the set and I know what happened and how good the actors were. Don’t they see the shows? Don’t they write down their thoughts? Trust me, even if they’re older, I believe they can still remember things.

Well, it's easier to remember a show when you've seen it several times...

I usually only see shows once, and I see a lot of shows -so my memory varies. Some things from 10 years ago are still crystal clear in my mind, and some things from a few months ago have already faded significantly.

But even some of the forgettable shows might have had really great set design, or sound design, or a supporting performance that maybe wasn't awards-bait, but still deserves recognition. This actually happens to me all the time, where someone will get nominated for an award, and I will find myself thinking "huh? I don't even remember that character, let alone the performance!" But if I were a voter in that position, maybe I would've remembered the actor better if someone had asked me mere days after seeing it, or shown me a video.

But regardless of whether you agree or disagree that Tony voters need this tool, it certainly can't HURT, and it isn't a poor reflection on the Tony voters (who are only human) if every single design component, every supporting performance, every show's orchestrations, etc. doesn't stay totally fresh in their brain after 6-9 months of frequent theatre-going.

Productions regularly send award nominators and voters packets with scripts, cast recordings, photo books, and other such things to keep in people's minds and jog their memory.

I see what you’re saying. I still don’t think it’s difficult to forget a performance. I have seen you get extremely defensive on these boards multiple times now and call people "disrespectful" even when they RESPECTFULLY disagree with you... as I did earlier on this thread. Just because someone disagrees with you and explains why does not make them disrespectful.

It's not remembering that a performance (or whatnot) is good, it's being able to clearly compare it to the others, that you have seen more recently.   So you remember the set, etc.... after seeing it SEVERAL times but what you fail to consider is that what you think you remember is 100% accurate.   None of our memories are.  

 

But Bwayphreak is correct - you pounce all over people here because you feel you've been wronged; instead of getting defensive, you just need to remember that we do not have to agree here - that's why we have discussions. Do some posters get aggressive? Yes, but doctor, heal thyself.

Respectfully, I would like to note that I don’t start out “pouncing” all over people. I say a relatively tame comment,!then someone decides to say something that provoked me. I know it’s my responsibility as to how I react, but geez, can y’all need to learn you’re not angels and own up when you say something hurtful. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s not, or that someone is overreacting. Be an adult :) At least I can own up to when I’m overreacting (like I did here).

Back to the fees conversation, Broadway.com is essentially the tourist trap of Broadway ticketing, capitalizing on folks just Googling "broadway" to find tickets while planning their trips. They ALSO compete with the individual shows' ad spending by way of spending money on Google search against the shows themselves. On top of that, they take a commission percentage off the top of every ticket. So....it's a total con.

Except your owning up consists of claiming everyone else acted worse when you needlessly started acting incredibly rude and then lectured others on respectfulness even when they responded civilly.

That's really interesting. I searched for a Wednesday matinee in August and got third row center in the orchestra for $229, thinking it wasn't that bad for such a limited run. It obviously depends on the day of the week but $200 for side mezz is, in my opinion, way too much.

If you have such a problem, block me. I don’t deserve this. When have any of you acted like an adult and owned up to something? I’d love to see it. Apologized for anything…I am mentioning others because you all love to badmouth me, but when have you ever apologized after I try to as well? I try to de-escalate the situation. Not provoke people. 
 

also on topic: it’s insane how you could find seats you find reasonable, but then the fees are so much you have to go find something else :/

Anyway, but moving back to the show, I had thought of Soo for this role awhile back, I’m excited she’s doing it, hopefully she lives up to my expectation. I’m hoping she brings out more of the humor than Denee did. Benton was a lovely singer and ingenue, but she didn’t quite have the comedic chops when I saw her.
