I think the issue is that it's too close. It's literally in front of you, eye level.

I cannot wait to hear how tonight goes. I'll be there on Monday (and thanks to that juicy deal one of the final previews as well). It's one of my favorite shows of the last few years.

An incredibly friendly crowd but this really should be our frontrunner. And Malone could easily repeat his Oliver win.

I went in completely blind but after Jak Malone's Act I solo I said "Well, he just won a Tony." An epic amount of applause afterward.
God, that (sounds) brilliant!
Was the finale even glitzier?

I felt like one of the few people in the theatre tonight (at least in center orchestra) who was seeing this for the first time; I was surrounded by fans decked out in merch, including several who had traveled from the UK. So the audience was unsurprisingly rapturous, with sustained applause and cheers for every number. As a newbie, I thought it was terrific…clever and funny with a great score. I did miss a good portion of the lyrics in some of the rapid patter/rap songs; I don’t know whether that was a function of a not yet fully worked out sound design, the accents, my aging ears, or a combination of the above, but I do think I would have enjoyed it even more if I had familiarized myself with the West End cast recording beforehand. Other than those sound issues and a few apparently missed lighting cues, I would never have known this was a first preview; the cast obviously worked out their roles and timing long ago, and their work was precise and seemingly effortless. Jak Malone seems a lock for the Tony, though if I were voting today for Best Musical, I’d still give it to Maybe Happy Ending (which I adored and have seen twice)…but it would be close.
Director Rob Hastie gave a pre-show curtain speech and asked the audience to email him at rob@operationmincemeat.com with any reactions and suggestions. Show let out at 10:50; I didn’t note what time it started or how long the intermission was.
Love that - directors should all give out their email for preview audiences to give suggestions.
Any first preview gift?

Not directly tied to this thread, but just want to add that this has been such a fantastic short trip from LA and a bit of a reprieve from the ongoing nightmare. We’ve loved everything we’ve seen, including MHE, Gypsy, Eureka Day, Mincemeat, and Joaquina Kalukango’s terrific set at 54 Below. Tomorrow it’s Urinetown and English before flying home Monday (and catching Old Friends in LA on Wednesday). The arts will survive, and thrive!

This was a brilliant evening, I would put this at the top of my Best Musical list just edging out MHE. Also Jak Malone is going to win a TONY and I can see the show getting nominated in Director, Book, Lyrics, Score, Lighting.
A very excited audience filled with superfans made it all feel like a rock concert.
It felt like Hamilton meets The Book of Mormon meets The 39 Steps.
Afterwards the stagedoor was a scene made even more crazy by fans singing "Sail On, Boys" accompanied by a three piece band as a surprise to the cast.
Get those $40 back mezz seats while you still can, this is a big hit in the making
Ugh, I just love this show so much. SO glad I was there tonight. The audience was absolutely electric. Hope that this is received just as well here as it has been in London and that the Golden is locked down for a long time.
I last saw the show first preview on the West End, so it's been a while. But, I've listened to the cast album a lot since then. The biggest change I noticed was that Montagu's rap to open up the Glitzy Finale was different than the album (but I can't remember if this was just shortened lyrics for the album or if it's actually different from the West End). I think there was also a new verse in Act As If, but now I'm second guessing myself (I'll be back in a few weeks and confirm then). Other than that, there were some minor cosmetic changes. I wouldn't have noticed them. But, I chatted with some brits about it at intermission who pointed out some of them (they seemed to think that these changes amounted to the second coming, I saw them as minor upgrades). Seems like the costumes, props, and sets all got just a bit zhuzhed up.
I got some of the $39 tickets for a performance in a few weeks. Super excited to go back and definitely plan to be back after that. This will likely be my post-Tony Tuesday show this year. Absolutely think it's a frontrunner or co-frontrunner for several awards.

Both "Just For Tonight" and "A Glitzy Finale" are even glitzier!

Just grabbed two for May 3. Saw this in London with the replacement cast and it was awesome. Can’t wait to see it with the original crew, especially Jak Malone.

“AGF” even added confetti cannons - which probably makes it the only show on Broadway where they are absolutely necessary and not just because they can.

I will say if people can wait, there are $40-$50 seats in the last two rows of the rear mezz later in the intial ticket block, granted the leg room is awful but the view is excellent with no obstructions

Have you sat there for this production. I’m going in April but the seats are super expensive. Nothing under $148 anywhere but the rear mezz…I worry the rear mezz will be too far back?

I'm in the rear mezz tonight, so will report back. I've sat back there loads of times over the years and, with one exception, thought they were great seats for the price. It's a small theater. At $49, these tickets are given away relative to what you pay in some of the three-level venues. I feel like there's a recency bias here because the Stereophonic set was so obviously built for somewhere else, and the view from the rear mezz sucked.

I shouldn't speak for the poster, but they did post comment #59 that they were there Saturday night and recommended those seats.

I read the article about how the special yellow bulbs for the suitcase sign are stuck in transit due to tarifs, but I don't understand why they can't put in plain white bulbs in the meantime...
