My sister is currently at the JRB cabaret show in Indy, and heard from either JRB or Shoshanna Bean that Stephanie Block will be replacing Sutton Foster in Anything Goes.
True or false? Does anyone here know?

Posted: 10/14/11 at 10:09pmI heard Sutton is staying with the show until closing. I don't think Stephanie J. Block or Shosanna Bean will replace her. I loved them both in Wicked but I can't see either as Reno.

The show isn't closing so how would you have heard she was staying with it until then? She's staying with it through the next extension but I'm sure she's going to want to move on then or soon after.

Posted: 10/14/11 at 10:12pmJust to clarify -- my sister didn't hear that Shoshanna would be replacing Sutton. She heard FROM Shoshanna (or JRB) at JRB's cabaret in Indy that Stephanie would be going into Anything Goes .

I think Steph would be great in the part. She'd certainly sing the crap out of it and she is a swell dancer (though I've never seen her tap).
Is there any other actress out there with even a bit of recognition who could fill Sutton's tap shoes?
And if someone says Rachel York, I'll scream.
Not that she's not good but her name comes up if she's right or not.

Osnes is not in the show anymore and Reno is usually a little older than Billy. Not that Steph looks older.

I'm seriously confused as to where people are getting this impression that Benanti has a big and high belt range. Benanti would be a DREADFUL Reno, especially in this production, seeing how it's built.
On that note, Block would also be dreadful. To be completely honest, I'd hope that Tari Kelly would take over for Sutton.

Posted: 10/15/11 at 4:37pmJust give it to Tari Kelly..she was pretty sensational the night I saw her as Reno. She's already part of the family and the production is so tight it doesn't need a star name. Cole Porter will always be the headliner.

If the show continues Tari Kelly deserves to play the Broadway run until it closes. The cast is very tight and promoting Kelly would be the supportive and right thing to do.
That being said they'll probably drag in some godd@#ned Susan Lucci or Marilu Henner stunt cast.

Posted: 10/15/11 at 5:07pmAs of now, Sutton is staying through the next extension and I doubt the show will stick around much longer than that. Also, during her absence when she is filming the pilot, I assume Tari will be on because Kristen Beth Williams is now being listed as a Reno cover, probably so that if Tari is unable to perform during Sutton's absence they have their bases covered. I see no way a completely new actress will be asked to come into the show as the lead for such a short period of time.
