SMASH cast > BOOP cast

The niche cult following liked the songs from "Bombshell" and Megan Hilty. Megan Hilty is not in the show and Broadway show story is much different than TV show story. Liking a handful of "Bombshell" songs is not going to be enough to sell tickets for over $100 and have a decent run."
Well said!!!

To be honest, this actually sounds pretty good, Never doubted Shaiman and Whitman for a second
This is fabulous. The orchestrations are lush, and the new lyrics are sharper than ever. Taking the closing number from a 40-minute episode and transforming it into an exciting opening number for a 2.5-hour show is a significant challenge. I believe they more than rose to meet it.

Per the Insta caption for anyone who missed it-this seems to be just one of multiple versions of Let Me Be Your Star that will appear in the show. A comment by the official account indicated that the "normal" version will appear as well.
It's apparently being sung four times throughout the show.
That demo recording def takes me back to the afternoon I spent at Hunter College last winter. I hope I get the chance to see how this has evolved.

Knowing that the "original" version will be in the show as well, I really appreciate what they've done for this version and I can totally see this as an opening number. I was a little skeptical on hearing how much they changed based on what people from the workshop said, but this definitely got me excited.

Not in it's entirety -- at least not in any of the last couple of readings.
how regular is it for shows to record their cast albums before performances begin? Shows change in rehearsals and previews, so it seems a little counter-intuitive to me?

Lucky for you there was just a discussion on this in the Boop thread, but just to list some recent ones, Harmony, Teeth, and Days of Wine and Roses were all recorded before their transfers. It can be a double edged sword as it helps for marketing and drumming up excitement, and in the grand scheme of things if they adjust a few lyrics here and there people might not care THAT much (outside of this board at least). And at least for Smash most of the songs should be familiar even if there's different arrangements or adjustments so they probably have a good idea of what they're working with, but unlike the others they haven't had actual public performances to judge the material so we'll have to see.

Four times?
This'll be worse than a dozen mentions of SHOES UPON THE TABLE
It'll be sung three or four times, but each version is very different, The song evolves, and its evolution is both fascinating and a significant aid to the overall development of the story. When I saw the show at Hunter College, the original version was incredibly disappointing, but that disappointment completely turned around as I realized how it was being used.
Sounds like the way they use In the Same Boat in Curtains.
