No offense to the WGA but enjoyed the show more without the written banter.
Like a couple of other people posted, the extended kiss at the end of "New York New York" was a bit over the top.
Aaron Rodgers (NY Jets) is becoming the "Where's Waldo" in NYC. From NBA Knicks playoff game to Taylor Swift concert and now the Tony Awards, he is always in the audience - ha ha.
"Shucked" was cute and enjoyable but not my "cup of tea".
Absolutely loved "Kimberly Akimbo" and glad it won for "Best Musical".
Lea Michele was wonderful, glad she got a chance to sing.
Made me really sad to see Joel and John trotted out and then turned around by a mugging Ariana and Julianne like they were aides in a nursing home. Can the men not speak for a moment? Really bizarre.
Also really livid for Stephen McKinley Henderson. The man is a legendary actor. Sean Hayes, who was wonderful, doesn’t touch the mastery of SMH. That Tony was a joke. Doug Wright is a sitcom writer. He did not write a legendary play.

What are you talking about? We're talking about the actual Tony awards. Not the telecast, but the actual ceremony. The ceremony began tonight at 6:30 and went until 11:00. The Tonys ran for 4.5 hours. We're saying we feel 4.5 hours is too long for the ceremony. Just because you only watched the last 3 hours of it doesn't mean it was only 3 hours.

Excuse the bitchery. Some people just don't like to admit they were wrong...

LaChanze won two Tonys as a producer tonight. The two shows she won for also did not have a mile-long list of co-producers, so she was probably instrumental in their successes. Congrats!
The lack of script helped with the pacing of the show and kept the evening focused on the task at hand. I hope going forward the Tonys and every awards show take note that it's typically the often-bad writing that bogs it down. I personally missed announcer tidbits like "This is Victoria Clark's second Tony Award," which don't factor into the length of the ceremony. But the show packages and videos of nominated performances (and designs etc. in Act One), I was a fan of those.
Tonight's ceremony was one of the best Tony shows in a long time. I agree with others that this format should be used going forward. Although I'm disappointed that some of the people I wanted to win did not, I can honestly say that I'm not mad at who actually won. I think overall, the Tonys got it right this year. As for performances, there were two shows that I haven't seen and I'm on the fence about - & Juliet and Shucked. The performance for & Juliet came off to me like a Super Bowl half-time show. Shucked came off to me like a bad variety TV show from the 70s. I really thought I'd be moved to buy tickets by tonight's performances.

Joel Grey and John Kander had their pre-telecast moments and they were not brief. And agree about the extreme disappointment that Stephen McKinley Henderson was not up on stage with the Tony in his hands.

Which is why Good Night, Oscar wasn’t nominated for Best Play. Henderson is a legend and no one can take that from him, but Hayes is still a worthy winner. Among a stacked category he gives the most transformative performance of the group, acting the role with an incredible level of stamina. His show-stopping climactic moment deserves recognition in and of itself. Really, any of the five in that category would have been satisfying winners though in my book!

In hindsight might have just been better not to bring them up a second time –– just assemble a quick clip package and an intro of "earlier tonight we presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to John Kander and Joel Grey." And then cut to them in the audience. But the Pluto segments for Grey & Kander were so good that I can't even be mad at the CBS version.
Overall I really liked the clip packages this year of the shows & folks involved talking about them (mostly).
The part of the telecast in which the present 11 of 26 categories and the two Lifetime Achievement Awards is not a "pre-show." It isn't a red carpet with interviews about what designers the nominees are wearing. It is a part of the official ceremony, whether CBS airs it or its shunted off to Pluto TV. The attendees from Lin-Manuel Miranda down didn't show up at 8:00pm for the Tonys, they showed up for curtain at 6:30pm. I'm not sure why this is a contentious point?

Both &Juliet and Shucked are much better than tonight's performances. I absolutely love them. Lorna is fantastic on stage and Shucked tried to do too much that it made it even more corny that the actual show.

Fwiw, its genuinely laugh out loud funny, and there are more than a few solid musical numbers. Its not going to change your life but I cant imagine someone not enjoying the experience of watching it.
