Lea finally had her Funny Girl Tony moment. Sonia Friedman is saying, why didn't we initially cast her as Fannie as she would have Won the TONY last year!"
It all had to happen exactly this way, for better or worse.
A great telecast and I loved the minimal bits...but how on earth did it still end up being 4.5 hours even without banter?!
KIMBERLY AKIMBO will get to advertise their wins and perhaps that will finally make a dent at the box office (but I'm not holding breath), but I cannot imagine that performance on the telecast would sell many tickets to casual viewers. SOME LIKE IT HOT, on the other hand, had a killer musical number, they'll get press surrounding the history-making Actor win and "best dancing on broadway". SLIH and PARADE may be the big winners of the telecast.
I am surprised JHG and/or Newell didn't make a point to say "let's abolish binary categories" or something like that.
LMAO…The second best musical winner in a row with a forgettable Tony number and that no one outside of Manhattan will be interested in seeing …Only in NY kids…
Considering Broadway is mostly tourists, Kimberly Akimbo has been open since last Fall so....false. Love the screen name tho, super fitting for your comment!

Guess it’s a good thing the award isn’t for Best Musical Your Aunt and Uncle from Macon Missouri Want to See.
It wasn't 4.5 hours. It ran 3 hours. They added more clips of shows with commentary before performances. I am sure that filled in some time. But if you were there, yes, it was a long night.
For me, they can do the show like this going forward. Loved every minute of this telecast.

Counting the commercials? It was almost exactly 4.5 hours. Started at 6:30, ended at 11 almost on the dot."
Uh. It started at 8pm EST but....sure."
Are you talking about just the CBS telecast? Sure, that was 3 hours. But the Tonys started at 6:30 tonight with the first 11 or so awards being given out between 6:30 and 7:45. Then there was about a 15 minute intermission and then the rest of the ceremony. So 6:30 until 11. 4.5 hours.

I’m in London right now and missed the broadcast but OH MY GOD!!!!!! Kimberly Akimbo deserved EACH of those wins!!!!! Especially Bonnie Milligan!!! I’m going to cry!!!! Congrats to all the winners but again, Kimberly Akimbo deserves it all right now! Go see this incredible musical!
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
There’s no doubt as to the importance of writers in this and other industries. However, I think the fact that there were no WGA writers involved in tonight’s show actually made it better. It came in right on time and the pacing was great!
Maybe the Oscars could learn a thing or two from tonight’s Tony Awards.

Agree, tonight was one of the Best Tony awards show! Ariana is perfection as host. Her likeability, energy and spirit is right on and it shows she's having fun and loves hosting the awards!

The Tony Awards are always this long. We have been to the show several times, the last time in 2019 and you had to arrive at the theater by 6 p.m. and it was not over till after 11.

Good. That was ridiculously over the top and rather awkward. I don't remember it being that drawn out in the show but to be fair I've tried to forget I ever sat through NYNY at all.
