It seems weirdly jingoistic to rail against the British imports for Best Play winning over American entries. I'm happy to celebrate the wonderful plays coming out of the West End if they're wonderful plays. (My favorite script was actually CONSTELLATIONS which wasn't even nominated.)
Why is it so difficult for television producers to focus the camera in one spot so we can actually see the name and pictures? This should be so complicated.
I'm very sad Hand to God went unrecognized, but good for Alex Sharp- he gave a lovely speech.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
I haven't been checking in much but for the most part I think things are running smoothly without being too exciting. Alan and Kristin are doing a good job running things and checking in from time to time without wasting time. The musical numbers are what they are. Most of the medleys were a little sloppy. I think OTTC has been the best medley so far highlighting the good parts and hiding the bad.
The quick glossing over of the teaching award, Tommy Tune tribute, and John Cameron Mitchell awards were annoying. The speedy In Memoriam was not great.
I saw it live at the dress rehearsal.....the In Memoriam segment was electrifying. It was good on TV but in person = when those levels just rose up in the back with the orchestra at back - on that huge stage....it was awesome.
I'm still running about 20 minutes behind, but I just saw Lisa Howard from It Shoulda Been You! and I absolutely loved her performance and voice. Now I kind of hope they record the show!
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."

Leading actress in a musical would only be surprising if Leanne Cope won and to a lesser extant, Beth Malone. If Beth or the group of 3 won, I would be happy. I am happy. Congrats to Kelli--she's earned every second of her awards experience.
