Glad to see Brantley get his comeuppance.

I'll admit, the microphone drop at the end from Audra bothered me. Like that's an expensive piece of equipment. How can you just do that to something like that?

This might be the first year we don't see a slew of closing notices go up Tuesday morning.

This was a much better show compared to the last few years

LuPone and Bernadette hugged Sondheim AT THE SAME TIME at Avery Fisher for his 80th Birthday. I doubt there's any real malice there.
Honestly though, how in God's name did Tim Minchin get honored for BEST LYRICS at the Drama Desks? I couldn't understand 2/3rds of them, and they were mostly mis-accented and poorly rhymed. At least Lauper wrote a dozen really great tunes.

Camera and mic work during the performances aside, it was a slick production this year. And I can understand the performances as they don't get much time to set these things up.
And, yes, Audra's stint in NPH's closing number was a highlight.

Not a bad Tony show overall.
My two major negatives... I know it's been said but didn't like the introductions of the presenters by the character names..AND I didn't like that Anthony Warlow who I hoped would be nominated didn't even get to perform in the Annie medley.
But otherwise...Yay Kinky Boots! And yay to all the winners.

Because handheld mics are sturdy. She didn't do it in the moment, they obviously planned for considering it would blow people's ears out when she dropped if they didn't turn it off.

The real question is how long will the Tony winners stay with their respective shows?

The Oscars need to take note on how to do an awards show.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

If I were a Broadway virgin and saw this show, I would never go to Broadway.

Kinky Boots has already updated its website. As has Pippin.

The lyrics in MATILDA are leagues better than KINKY's. They're pretty genius, in fact. And I do think KINKY has a fun, well-crafted, catchy score...and I probably would have voted for it to win. So I'm glad it did.
But Minchin's Drama Desk win was for his lyrics, not for the poor annunciation (which I agree with you about) of the performers. It was well-deserved.
I'd still love to see the Tonys split have two separate categories for Best Music and Best Lyrics.

Screw Scarlett Johansson and Alan Cummings- your shows flopped. You should be grateful that the League even asked you to present. Should have been classy like Sigourney who really deserved a nomination- but there are only 5 slots. Glad they didn't give the choreography award to Chet Walker who basically used a lot if not all of the steps of the original Pippin. Show was too long. Opening was phenomenal and Cecily's speech was the best. And Jake Gyllenhaal is gorgeous. No desire to see Matilda or Kinky from what was shown.

blaxx, I did not remember that, but it makes sense. I've never heard Bernadette say a bad word about Patti, and I think Patti's humorous 'Well, Bernadette got the role...' remarks are...well...meant to be humorous.

Other than Phantom and the Rascals, I thought it went pretty well for THE WORST TONY BROADCAST EVER.

It was a good show, I enjoyed it. So happy for everyone who won, and yay for Kinky Boots! I was hoping they'd win Best Score and Best Actor, and they did, along with Best Musical Yay!
