Now, I may have been dreaming this, but did Victoria Clark exclaim "ow!" during her onstage quick change?

"The Oscars (insert Emmys, etc) need to take note on how to do an awards show." I don't know about that. The Tonys are based around the live performances (POTO notwithstanding)The things that make the Tonys great are what drag the Oscars down.
"I thought Kinky Boots got overlooked esepecially Best Cherography." didn't they win that one?
What did it get overlooked for? It WON Choreography.
It did quite well.

Random request, but does anyone have video of the Awards show after Pippin won best revival? CBS Atlanta cut the show off and went to the news before the end of the show. I read who won, but would like to see the reactions and the end of the show as well. I am so angry and can't believe they did it! I know they would never cut off a sporting event. CBS runs late all the time, don't understand why they couldn't wait a few minutes for the final award of the night
I'm somewhat surprised that the only award that VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE took home was the top prize. Didn't that happen last year with CLYBOURNE PARK?
Thrilled for KINKY BOOTS, however, those who have taken to bitching about the Best Musical win, think about this: KINKY BOOTS finished with 6 and MATILDA with 4. Had MATILDA taken the top prize, they would've finished evenly with 5 each, neither the dominant victor.

The only thing you missed was Kinky winning. I'm sure you'll be able to find it on YouTube tomorrow. I have it on my dvr, but don't know how to do anything with it.
Wanna come over?

well, in terms of musicals; Bring It On & Drood have already closed. Kinky Boots, Matilda & Motown were already hot tickets before they won any awards. Pippin had a small discount before the Tonys that I'm sure will vanish quickly. Cinderella should see a bump in sale. A Christmas Story will be back for the holidays. The only one that MIGHT close by the end of summer would be Annie.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I thought all the performances came off really great with the glaring exception of PHANTOM, which now looks and sounds so dated (oy to those silent film star gestures!),like it came from another century altogether. Oh, wait...it did.

Winners and losers aside, the Tonys are a brilliant reminder of how lucky we are as audience members and art enthusiasts to be graced with the incredible passion, talent, and dedication that all of those special people shared with us tonight. I always end up a little weepy at the end of the broadcast. I am so very grateful for the beauty and magic of live theatre and the almost constant reminder that I am a part of this transcendent piece of the human experience... something so much larger than I can comprehend.
The highlights of the evening for me were the richly deserved wins for Diane Paulus and Pam MacKinnon, as well as Tracy Letts, whose innate ability to command both a Broadway house and one of the most celebrated pieces of the last century is unlike anything that I've ever seen before.
I shall like to propose a toast to the winners and the nominees for a great evening.
Patina, YOU GO GIRL! Laura gets the Drama Desk and all is right in the world. Jerry Mitchell shouldn't have won choreography over Walker/Snider and Darling for they have created superior work than Mitchell. Congrats to Lauper, Porter and their wonderful show, may it live a long life, Hurrah for Long's costumes, Boo to Kinky's orchestrations (Danny Troob should've won).
It was an interesting year alright. I am going to bed.
I bought my tickets for PIPPIN right before they announced it won for Musical Revival (Rear Mezz Left Side for $69 each)...I have a friend in the ticketing business who said to expect the already high prices ($138+ for all except for side Mezz) to go up at least $20-$30 very soon

blaxx, I did not remember that, but it makes sense. I've never heard Bernadette say a bad word about Patti, and I think Patti's humorous 'Well, Bernadette got the role...' remarks are...well...meant to be humorous.
That is just LuPone's personality. I doubt we would ever hear Peters says a bad thing about her, ever. This rivalry is more like fan fiction than anything else.
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
Patti told me that Bernadette slept with Derek to get her role in BOMBSHELL.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Eating serious crow on NPH, here: As a producer, he no doubt brought a higher level of writing and production team to the whole thing.

Eh, I wish Matilda had won, but whatever. I'm glad I got to see it and have the experience I did, and that's ultimately what matters. It was an entertaining show though- I had a great time watching!
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Thought it was a great show - the Rascals bit being the one major bit that should have been cut - especially after it stopped even being the basis for clips.
I also did't understand the director's ability to not show a musical number - which really damaged Matilda and Pippin and Kinky Boots. Is the dress rehearsal so different from the actual performances?
^It seems as though a lot of time was spent on the direction of the opening number, which tech/camera wise, was pretty flawless. Maybe the other numbers suffered for rehearsal time??
