If you have any evidence to support what you're saying, now is the time to come out with it.
I'm much younger than Tyne Daly, but I've been in a situation where I've been hospitalized with a non-life-threatening illness, have told my boss I'd be coming to work in a few days, then realized it would be more like a few weeks, and that was not nearly as grueling a job as starring in a Broadway show. The account given here is extremely plausible.

Its totally plausible that Daly thought she'd be better in time to be back this week, but then wasn't. Its also plausible everyone involved knew as soon as she fell sick that she couldn't continue-- and it took three business days for them to paper a deal with Amy Ryan. In the interim, what are they supposed to say?
Boris is a classic troll here, galling given the insensitivity to a theater legend's health, but nothing new or surprising.
I would’ve like to see Laurie Metcalf tackle this role.
I was thinking Olivia Colman

And let's not forget that people NEVER get sick and then take a turn for the worse. You know, like pneumonia/bronchitis/covid - or many other things. Or because of one illness, they find another. Those things never happen.
Boris - some people might believe everything they read....but do you NEVER believe what you read. Same difference.

Have you no shame? Seriously. This is both cruel and unhinged."
The only shame is when false fronts are put up to hide what’s really going on. Theatre history is full of these situations.
First it was “she’ll be back in a couple of days.” Now it’s “hospitalized and not coming back but expected to make a full recovery.” Why not come back when recovered? It doesn’t add up.Do you believe everything you read?"
Tyne Daly is a class act with one hell of a great track record when it comes to her Broadway performances. Your response is gross and ill-informed.

That commenter is a dumbass, but HIPAA has literally nothing to do with this.
So...Isabel Keating saves the day, does a knock-out job (from reports on here) and gets booted back to waiting in the wings?!?! This business is unkind.

She was hired for the job she gets to continue doing, and she earns street cred in the industry that will lead to more jobs. They need a name to sell seats. Would you rather they pull the plug? Have some perspective.
I get that but I don't feel like Amy Ryan is a huge box office draw...
I’m sure Tyne was giving an excellent performance, as she always does. I think the energy people are referring to is that this revival didn’t exactly feel…exciting in any way? Amy Ryan may not be more of a draw than Tyne, but I think there is more of a desire to see what she will do with the role.

I'd argue that Amy Ryan is more of a draw to the under 40 crowd than Tyne Daly. While that's not necessarily the demo for Doubt it's hard to overstate just how big she is for Gen. Z/millennials.

Lol! Sorry - not you! I meant the poster the person I was replying to was replying to. (And now my brain is thinking “two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical.”)

lol no one is attacking your favorite star! The alleged troll was just pointing out that it sounds like, walks like, and possibly is a cover story.
It's not about attacking anyone's favorite star. The fact that hospitalization was cited is not business as usual with these types of withdrawal announcements. It takes a great deal of cynicism to believe Tyne's illness is just a smokescreen for what would usually be termed "creative differences" or "personal issues." The offensiveness of Boris Tomashevsky's post still stands, and it is even more galling that when called upon it, he dug his heels in deeper.
Roundabout is a subscription-based, nonprofit theater. Questions of whether or not Amy Ryan is a "draw" are really moot. But she was recently a star of a popular, still-running TV show, and she had a notable role on one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. People know who she is.
As for Isabel Keating: she's an old pro whose worked consistently in this business for 40 years. This isn't her first standby gig, and I doubt she had any impression that she would be promoted to the role full time. She's going to do the job she's being paid to do.
My heart sank when I saw Daly was hospitalized. Given her career and reputation, I can imagine only something serious causing her to withdraw from a production. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Did anyone else with tickets not get an email from Roundabout? I’m surprised I wasn’t notified

I heard the ticket taker informing people as they were scanning tickets last night. Then Ellis addressed the house before the performance explaining she's in hospital, but will be fine. Did not mentioned Amy, but did give kudos to Isabel. I thought she did a wonderful job Feb 6. Just 3 times she asked for a line, then continued seamlessly. First class show, with a simple effective set, and great lighting.

Subscribers make up a small percentage of the audience over the run of the show, and "nonprofit" is a tax status. They require single-ticket sales to sustain their business, and though a show isn't capitalized individually like a commercial production, they no doubt have internal sales goals to meet/exceed, debts to pay down, etc.

Roundabout has one of the largest subscriber bases in New York, and subscription tickets account for a significant portion of their audiences during the subscription weeks of the run. It is not the same consideration as a purely commercial production.
